i've had my brother MFC-7820N mono laser printer/scanner/copier/fax for years and for my limited uses (scanning and printing), it works great...i got it when windows XP was the latest and greatest and it never occurred to me that scanning over the network was possible (though i got it specifically due to its ethernet port for network printing)
i've wanted to be able to scan over the network for some time now and so i picked up a brother HL-2280DW wireless (and wired) mono laser printer/scanner (no fax, haha) when i was able to get it new for $75
first frustration was that it's only wireless-G (something i should have checked first) and so i had to change our network from N-only to G/N-mixed...no big deal there, it works great...i cannot, for the life of me, get network scanning to work
this windows 7 how-to (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-a-scanner) says that it needs to support the microsoft scan service (WS-Scan) protocol and i can't find anything in my printer documentation that says it does, so i assume it doesn't
so, my question: is there any way (software or some configuration in win7 i'm missing) that i can use to scan over the network? i've always been perfectly happy with the default windows fax & scan program, but i'll install something new if i have to 10/12/2011 1:17:09 PM |
