time and if you'd go back.

Just finished dinner at Gourmet Kingdom in Carrboro and omg one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in the Triangle. Looks like a dump from the outside lol. Too bad it's in Carrboro otherwise I'd come all the time.

I've generally found that 'looks like a dump' has a proportional relationship with food nominess. Unfortunately, the relationship is not deterministic.

As a general rule, I avoid Chinese buffets. If you order off the menu it is A++.

did just do a little browsin' and saw this:

"Best transformation of 2010, from horrid buffet style to an amazing menu of 'real' chinese food."

so evidently they've attempted a culture shift

Went to Ciagos for the first time last night. I dont know why we didnt go before with it being a block away. Food was good, I got lasagna and she got chicken parm. Sauce had a sweet taste to it, the gf loved it, I liked it ok, but I could see some people not liking it.

I will go back(definitely will go here before ever setting foot in 518 west again) , but probably not too often to save $$. The bill was $41 after tip.

I walked about a mile from my hotel and decided to play food roulette since I can't read or speak German and got the Hawaii schnitzel. Which had some type of Hawaiian banana curry sauce on it. Twas good. The two glasses of local beer were good too. The server also brought me two complimentary shots, no clue what either were but one was good and one was brutal. Overall, great success!

I went to Ballymoor in North Raleigh for the first time a few weeks ago. My mom and I have dinner once a week and we've been going back there ever since. They have the best muscles (app or entree w/ linguine) that I've ever had. The have great fish and chips, bangers and mash, guiness stew and boxties (Irish potato crepe-like wraps). Highly recommended.

Owned by the same folks as Tralli (spelling?) in Brier Creek. Dog friendly, outdoor firepits, live music and trivia, and a really cool traditional pub style bar.

note for those people with unbridled enthusiasm for their southern pride though

Casa Carbone does not have sweet tea (the Coke was just fine)

We all shared calzones which were good, but i wanted to get chicken alfredo...their menu has fettucini alfredo for like $10, but you can add chicken...for 5 f'n dollars .. i wasn't about to pay that much extra

Mura is good - i feel like it was a bit better a couple of years ago but we still enjoy going there.

i've been a ton of times but yall should check out Tasca Brava - best authentic spanish place around Raleigh. it's downtown behind the Mellow Mushroom. be forewarned - the owner believes in the slow food movement so expect to be there for a while. the food is always amazing. the owner gets all the stuff he cooks with imported from Spain and he has a lot of knowledge about everything - where it came from, how it's grown, what seasons you can get it in.

we used to go to 35 chinese a lot when i was younger. I remember waiting for seats and there were these giant fish tanks in the waiting room. I saw the chef fishing a couple of fish out of the tank. A little while after sitting down they brought out some fish nuggets. they were really good

'Twas a couple of months ago, but the girlfriend and I went to 604 West Morgan in downtown Durham, and wow that place is excellent. I had a squid ink pasta with scallops, shrimp, crab, and mussels in a lobster cognac sauce, and she had fettucini with wild mushrooms, grana padano, and truffle oil. Have to say mine was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had (and hers was really good as well). Plus the place is really cool-looking, inside the West Village development. Only drawback was that the service was a little slow, but that I can forgive for the quality of the food. Haven't gone back yet as it's a little expensive, but will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

It was hilariously bad in every aspect of presentation, service, and execution. Will not return.
