Do they not still offer the tutoring/help seminars? When I went through, a few students started doing this to help the youngins. Figured it was continued, since it was free to the department and extremely popular. 10/15/2011 11:29:00 AM |

The TA "help" sessions conflict with my other classes ...
@krallum, no I have Guddati... he's alright, ...uses very simple examples in class/homework, but likes to throw curveball quizzes 10/16/2011 2:19:31 AM |

1.) Your TA/professor are available outside of their established help areas. Trying asking them. 2.) My original post was not about TAs/TA help hours. Check around to see if the student run tutoring sessions still exist. These are run by upperclassmen, not by TAs 10/16/2011 11:41:03 AM |

FWIW, CE 214 is the most aggressive weed out class in the curriculum. Just get through it and you'll be fine. 10/16/2011 1:48:24 PM |

Hey statics is easy, everything sums to 0
Seriously though, examples are your friend, study the book/class examples like your life depended on it. Theory only takes you so far. I did most of my engineering learning through the textbook. 10/24/2011 10:47:55 AM |

Until you get to dynamics
The classes I had the most trouble with in CE was probably dynamics and reinforced concrete design (Depending on your concentration, you may not take that).
Statics was tough becuase it was the first class that taught you to think like an engineer. I'd always plugged stuff into math formulas and such, but for the first time, there were basic formulas but you had to figure out how to apply them. It definitely wasn't as straight forward as things I had learned up until that point10/25/2011 11:20:37 PM |

is ce214 easier/harder than the MAE statics? im in comp. engineering and we have a tech elective requirement... not rly trying to sign up for an "aggressive weed out course" though 10/26/2011 2:15:32 AM |

The rule of thumb I heard is mechanical dynamics is hard and civil statics is hard. So if you have to take it, try mechanical statics or civil dynamics. I had an incredibly easy dynamics teacher, but he got laid off the next semester (Tom Brown).
I don't think reinforced concrete was really that difficult, I just had a horrible teacher (Sericino). That guy couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag. 10/27/2011 12:02:39 PM |

I thought Seracino was a fine teacher. I had him for reinforced concrete and the FRP class. 10/27/2011 4:09:56 PM |

I thought Reinforced concrete was challenging, but a good course that wasn't too hard (if that makes sense). And I'm a water boy.
And yes, generally civil statics is more difficult; mechanical dynamics is more difficult. I'd recommend taking mechanical statics. 11/4/2011 11:09:36 AM |

Dropped the class.
Taking it again with Parrish next semester.
Over the holiday I'll go over all the homework and quizzes. 11/9/2011 6:03:28 PM |
