This weekend I stayed at the Tazewell Hotel in Norfolk. The location was good (right in the middle of downtown) and while it was less expensive than the competition, it wasn't cheap. The room was cramped (did not even have actual queen size beds), the wireless internet was having problems, and worst of all the the shower was lukewarm and had very low pressure.

The last one I can remember is some motel 6 outside of San Fran.

The worst, which I don't remember the name, had mushrooms growing in the carpet in front of the bathroom.

Ray, you faggot. I was in Norfolk too...went to the Wine Fest downtown. We stayed in the Marriott Waterside, and courtesy of Priceline, i got that bitch for 75 a night. PIMP. Shit's regular like 160, and it was pretty posh, sir.

Fuck staying in a fleabag motel. I had my fill of those. Pops and I stayed at this joint in Clarksville, VA once when we were doing a mapping job. What a dump.

It's not cheap a enough room unless you spend the night watching the door with a loaded pistol.

I also stayed at a place with taxidermy animals in the rooms. Really digged that one.

A place called the American Inn outside of Kansas City in the late 90's. The room door didn't lock properly, the windows had visible gaps in between the glass and frame in places causing drafts, the water pressure went to shit if two adjacent rooms tried to take a shower at the same time (we were in a group), the tub barely drained, and the place just wasn't clean. Our group ended up leaving a night early and spending the last night at the KC airport Hilton, which was good to begin with and even better in comparison to where we were.

We accidentally stayed at Jim Bakker's old Heritage USA property: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritage_USA

I don't remember if it was Heritage Grande Hotel or Radisson Grande Resort at the time. It was a very weird place regardless, and it took us a while to realize where we were. Also, I don't know what I was doing in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Surely, I wasn't visiting Charlotte....?

Anyway, growing up, if we weren't camping, we went on educational road trips so we stayed at plenty of random dumps. I'm accustomed to them and kind of think most motels/hotels are disgusting if you look hard enough. But I cried once when I unexpectedly had to stay at a Best Western.

when i visited the university of iowa they put me up in the campus hotel. it was pretty bad, i basically got a dorm room for the night. i enjoyed that campus though, and iowa city was surprisingly cool; like a smaller ann arbor.

^^Strangely, Heritage USA is probably the best motel I've ever stayed in, pre-Bakker prison term of course.

That place was awesome until the ungodly vermin desecrated his playground. I got my settlement check in the mail, all $6.00 of it. I hope the greedy cunts who sued because they couldn't get reservations for July 4th week and couldn't wait a year for another hotel to be built are happy.

I've stayed in some shitty places before (words).

#1 - the Hamilton Inn in Greenville, NC. went up there as a high school senior with friends who were offered admission at ECU and got schmammered downtown (they served our 17 year old asses til my friend puked) and ended up driving around til we found this place thinking it was a Hampton Inn (similar sign graphics too). they asked us if we "were sure" we wanted to stay there but said that it would only be $25 but the rooms "didn't have TV's" so we were like YEAH MAN SOUNDS GREAT!!1 and got two rooms. go up to the room and it smells like straight cat piss. the floor was wet with what we assumed to be said cat piss to the point you could slide around like Tom Cruise in Risky business. the second room was just as bad. both rooms it looked like the blankets had been just thrown back on the bed lazilly, not even clean. we try to get our money back and they won't refund and only change our room. the next set of rooms was as bad if not worse. they start getting mad that we want our money back. finally we give up and go to the room. ALL NIGHT LONG crackheads kept knocking on the glass trying to sell us crack, showing it to us and everything (only time I've seen crack in my life). We slept on top of the blankets. Terrible experience. reported to BBB the next day.

#2 - I travel to Europe for a grad program but go a week early to check out a few places first. First stop was Amsterdam. I found a hostel online that looked good and had good reviews. My flight to NYC was delayed due to rain and I ended up getting re-routed to London (had a 6 hour layover and actually saw a lot, which was nice) and I call my parents and ask them to contact the hostel to let them know I'd be arriving around 12-1am, they do and said they'll be waiting for me. My bags get lost and all I have is a heavy carryon with all of my electronics. I get on the last train to center city from Shiphol and take the tram to Leide Square. It's 1am and I'm walking around trying to find this place in a busy club district. I've been inundated with the fear of being robbed in these situations and I'm alone with a suitcase. The hostel doesn't answer when I ring. Wait for 15 minutes and nothing. I'm desperate at this point and go to the nearest hotel that I can find. The guy there spoke broken english and asked if I was sure that I wanted to stay there. I say that I am and so he gives me my key. The room was a matress on the floor. No functional light in the whole place (even the bathroom) and it smelled like shit. The room faced the street and two very loud night clubs. I had been up for 36 hours at this point due to layovers and such. I go grab a few beers and some other goodies, walk around a bit then go back to the room to try and get some sleep. The club was obnoxiously loud until about 4am and above me I heard loud pounding and moaning ALL NIGHT. At 5am the club stopped and I thought I might get some rest but alas, construction began and jackhammers sounded the rest of my stay there until the noon checkout. If it were not for my airplane pillow and blanket that I saved I would have had to sleep on filthy blankets/pillows.

so basically I've had to sleep in two hotels that were essentially pay by the hour fuck hotels.

I've also stayed at the Super 8 by Crabtree a few times because we'd rent the rooms out and throw parties there in high school and just crash. It was bad but not even CLOSE to what I described above. There's hotels that are cheap and good to take a broad for the night, and there are hotels that are not meant to be slept in.

/words.

tl;dr - two fuck hotels. one in greenville and one in amsterdam with ridiculous situations.

the Sandra Lee Motel in Mt. Airy, Maryland...

there was a rusted out hole in the tub and a hole in the ceiling where things (i'm assuming roaches and other bugs) kept falling out of onto the floor and bed...

these are the least offensive things i can describe about that place

I think it was the Red Roof Inn near downtown Raleigh (Sanderson or something). Place wasn't bad at all, and likely would've gone again since they were cheap and allowed pets...but the place was robbed just before check out Sunday morning and the thieves used the exit near my room - so I come out to see police tape everywhere

The days in in cheraw south carolina.

They've renovated it now but it was a real winner back in the day... complete with 30 year old mattresses that you felt every spring in, stained carpets and no cable.

P.s. i didn't book the hotel... my work did for me.

Absolutely this POS Comfort Inn I stayed in just outside of Cincinnati. I booked a non-smoking room with two beds in it. They give me the keys and it's a room that someone has obviously been smoking in, only one bed, NO WINDOWS , and there's black mold covering EVERYTHING. Literally covering everything. It was so disgusting.

So I go back to the nasty ass lobby to tell the dude the room does not meet what my reservation says. He goes, "Prove it." Uhh, I have the goddamn piece of paper that says non-smoking double room right here. So they give me keys to another room. This time it at least has a window, but it smells like a smoker died inside of it and there was a huge blood stain on the comforter. And of course there are these roach looking bugs scattering all over the place. Fucking sick

Finally I just demand my money back and end up sleeping in my car at a rest stop.

Some crappy beach front motel in Carolina Beach. Spontaneous beach trip with my girlfriend and I told her to find a place and book it because I was working a ton of hours. The room smelled like an ashtray. It literally smelled like what you'd expect if you sat on the bed chain smoking for about 8 years. Flip on the light in the bathroom and you'd see roaches scatter. Hella gross when you pick up your shampoo bottle in the shower and three or four roaches run out from under it. It sounded like 10-15 high school and college kids were partying in the pool right next to our room until 3:00 a.m. We bought a fan from Wal-Mart and were trying to sleep with our windows open and the fan blowing in fresh air, but that just exposed us to more noise from the pool. The place was a disgusting dump. I wish I could remember the name of it. As soon as I got home all my clothes including the duffel bag went straight into the washing machine for fear of what they might have picked up.

by the way, the Tazewell hotel I stayed out offers a 20% discount on your next stay to people who write positive reviews on TripAdvisors. So don't believe everything you read on the internet.

What an opportune time for this thread to come into existence. The hotel I've been at for over a week in Dortmund, Germany might take the cake. The hotel is the Unique.

Day one, room one: Get in to my tiny ass room and the sheets are from the previous guest with hair and all.

Day one, room two: Tiny still, I can touch all four walls from the bed and it is 58 euro a night.

Day three, room three: They were out of "standard" rooms so I upgrade to comfort. Room looks nice and has a queen bed. I hardly sleep at all because I am pretty sure they confused a box spring for a mattress. Also TV doesn't work.

Day four, room four: Moved because TV doesn't work, this room they put me in is pathetic. Two twin beds with a headboard for a queen. Beds are separated and one twin has a wall socket with lamps plugged in it behind the pillow. At the foot of the beds are a bench which you have to step over to get to the beds.

Day four, room five: Everything looks good. First comfortable bed, tv works, clean sheets. I break out the iPad, wireless dead zone...fuck it, bed's comfy. Been there the past few nights and just go to the lobby for wireless.

^^^ You just reminded me of the shithole I stayed at in London. Lots of mold, TV didn't work, windows were nailed shut and no ventilation in the room. Room was so small you could barely fit yourself and your suitcase inside. Went to go complain to management, then realized everyone in the lobby was complaining to management about their rooms as well. Thank god I only stayed there for two nights. Fucker was $200/night too.

I also stayed in a shithole hostel in Bangkok complete with bed bugs and padlocks on the outside of all the room doors because the bolt locks didn't work, but I only paid $10/night for that so you pay for what you get in that case
