You know, illegals and criminals carrying weapons do cross the border and shoot at border agents. It's called self defense and defense of the public. The same reasons regular cops carry guns.

And I doubt that this an assault rifle. Appears to be a typical AR style rifle, which is common among law enforcement.

it is an "assault rifle," which I believe is any rifle that has a magazine that is interchangeable and that uses a certain type of round (whatever the term for a "bottle neck" round is). Most people assume it needs to be all black and have a lot of gadgets on there, but the AK45 is an assault rifle too

aaannd upon further research, you are supposed to be able to switch from semi to full auto with a true assault rifle, so no, civilian AR's don't count... I think there are some contradictions in the definition though, because I have always known AR to be an assault rifle (maybe it is, because they are all "capable" of doing it, the government just makes it illegal to have the parts in there that do it)

No that's an "Assault weapon" as the US government and ATF likes to define it.

Assault rifles have to be full auto or at least capable of burst firing.

ARs are not assault rifles. They may look the part, but they do not have the parts to be an assault rifle.

The anti-firearm left wingers created their own, new definition of an assault rifle in order to encapsulate as many firearms in their 1994 gun ban act. It is this definition that has been recently forced upon the masses and adopted by anti-firearm fools in order to scare and convince people that modern rifles are evil and more dangerous than older rifles. A fun fact: many so called "assault weapons" have the SAME exact action (the mechanical part that makes a gun a gun) as old school, publicly accepted hunting rifles; the primary difference is the stock.

Among anyone other than this group, who is actually knowledgeable in firearms would agree that to be considered an assault rifle, it must have full auto.

ARs are not "capable" of full auto fire, as much as any semi-auto firearm is not. Sure you can modify/exchange parts, but that isn't exclusive to ARs, nor common.
