^^ most doctors won't waste time testing for the flu unless you're at risk for complications. I remember one year it turned out I had the flu and didn't even realize it until the doctor tested me for it because of other issues I had going on.

The flu isn't always going to knock you out like that. You may get a milder strain, or your immune system has fought a similar strain before not long ago allowing it to fight more efficiently etc etc. But the chances of someone being on this planet for over twenty years and not having contact with the flu is much less likely than someone getting the flu and either being too young to remember or not realizing it was the flu.
