Seems to happen to me about 3 to 4 times a week now where my lunch time is stolen by someone scheduling a meeting. I guess its not a big deal because I usually eat at my desk during lunch anyway, and work. I work 9+ hour days, so it's not really worth eating away from my desk (making up that extra hour makes a long day even longer).
I know whats happening... Lunch time is when peoples calendars are free....because it's lunch. So meetings get scheduled. Whatever.
Anyway, this happen to you guys? Isn't it standard practice to cater the meetings if they are scheduled during lunch? 10/25/2011 12:17:00 PM

I have meetings during my "lunch time" almost daily. But since I eat at my desk it doesn't matter 10/25/2011 12:20:53 PM

If you schedule me during lunch...
1) I have the option to decline the meeting invite 2) If I accept, then you better provide me lunch 3) If you are a dick and don't provide it, then I will take my lunch break in the afternoon or leave early 4) In retaliation, I will schedule you from 4:30pm-5:30pm on a Friday. Then, I will say that I forgot to tell you it was cancelled as you sit in the conference room alone and I am out enjoying the start of my weekend. 10/25/2011 12:24:59 PM

Most every day is a business lunch for me, which is great 'cause I rarely have to buy my own. The hard part is eating healthy
It's not so bad working a 10hr workday though since its only 4 days a week...but damn 6AM is early to wake up & eat breakfast. 10/25/2011 12:42:14 PM

Most days I have to leave for lunch. If I stay anywhere near the office, somebody will have a "crisis" that I'll have to get involved with. 10/25/2011 2:09:53 PM

LOL. 9 hours is somehow bad? WTF? People are either lazy or just trolling. 11+ hr days are the reg for me and for many people I know. Usually 6:30 am to 5:30 pm or later is my normal schedule. Honestly every salaried person I know (at least ones worth a damn) works a 50+ hr weeks.
Yeah it'd be nice to put in shorter days, but I'm thankful to have a good job and will do what it takes to keep said job. 10/25/2011 3:07:40 PM

This never happens to me. Whenever I start a new job I ask about work/life balance and I've pretty much always been told it depends on what sort of precedence you set. I used to work through lunch every now and then, but then I'd just leave work at 4 or come in around 10 the next day. 10/25/2011 4:39:37 PM

^ I understand that. Personally, I think that I've set a precedent on things like this. Also, on the official "rule books" for the company, there is supposed to be a work-life balance... as well as a ratio between meetings:hours left to do actual work.
still, to go back to what BobbyDigital posted earlier

there's also an unofficial "rule" where we're expected to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Anyway, this is all perhaps a bit off topic. I'm really not trying to complain about hours worked. I was honestly curious if anyone else's lunchtime gets bogarted?

Every few weeks, I have to cover another teacher's class when I would typically eat lunch, but it's no big deal. I have planning during the lunch period, so I just eat later. 10/25/2011 8:48:40 PM

Constantly. I work for a company headquartered in California. The CA folks love to have (phone/WebEx) meetings at 9AM their time...aka noon eastern. Bye lunch! 10/26/2011 1:23:10 AM

I take lunch whenever I want. If my normal lunchtime gets preempted by a meeting, then I just take lunch later or earlier.
An old coworker taught me a great trick to make sure people don't hijack your lunches. Schedule Private appointments during your lunchtimes throughout your week. If you didn't want to make it too obvious, vary the times and lengths, and maybe not have one scheduled every day. This way, if someone tries to schedule a meeting for you, you can come back and say, "Sorry, already have something on my calendar." 10/26/2011 8:09:34 AM
