2) Reading a road map

If I give you a map of the city, you should know how to get from point A to point B from anywhere on the map without me having to explain it to you.

What probably happened was they left the wrong receipt. The signed one filled out correctly is probably in their pocket.

^^ That's definitely one thing I think everyone should know, but I don't My bf has been supposed to teach me for like a year and a half, but so far that hasn't happened. And now he lives in Florida, so I doubt it will any time in the immediate future.

^^Well Sherlock, why do you think a receipt with no signature and an amount of four dollars higher than the total was left? Surely, you are smart enough to know that some people will write the total amount they left only on a receipt they plan to keep. You are intelligent enough to comprehend this, right?

1) I don't give customer receipts unless requested.
2) The customer copy doesn't have a signature line.
3) I have the merchant copy in my possession.

4) The customer wrote the Amount + Tip in the tip spot.
5) When the customer got to the total spot, they assumed I'd understand their short-comings and left it upto chance that I wouldn't take the $42.58 as a tip.

6. If I did take the tip, their next illogical thought would be "If he assumed that it's okay to take a $42.58 tip, then I could assume that he accepted a (null) total and I shouldn't be charged anything at all."

I'm not ignorant. I know it's supposed to be a $4.00 tip. I know when to take what they mean to say rather than the literal interpretation in what they write (unlike most of you motherfuckers on this messageboard )

I only do the pizza in Large, and it starts at $19.99. Takes 25 minutes to make and you can watch me make it. It's pretty intense.

Best pizza in America by far. People just don't even know. smh.

I think the biggest fear people have when trying to learn how to drive a stick is fear of damaging the vehicle. In reality though, unless you do something really really stupid you will not. So if you have someone with you that knows how to drive a stick you'll be fine.

***disclaimer***

There are some people that have no business driving whatsoever, be it with an automatic or manual transmission. They will fail and start crying, pick a fight and/or crash into something. Not that I'm speaking from experience on that last note

I wanted to learn for the longest time, but everyone who drives a stick was all protective of their cars. "You're not burning up MY clutch! " "You're not stripping MY gears! "

Then I found some friends who didn't care, and now I have a Civic with a manual transmission that I love pretending actually has some kind of power under the hood. Thank you, second gear and third gear.

I don't know how to drive a manual transmission and I am not ashamed. Maybe I'll learn someday but I don't know that I have much incentive.

I don't think you should be ashamed. I just think it's one of the things that's useful to know. I feel capable of driving most vehicles on the road now. A friend's mother taught him in case he ever needed the knowledge to get out of a dangerous situation or something (have to drive a friend's car because they're drunk, etc.).

For sure. I wouldn't ever say it's something that wouldn't potentially be useful for me to learn. I'm just not a car person (which is weird for an ME I know) so it's on the "probably useful but I'm not that motivated or excited to do it yet" side of my to-do list

What about "things you can do in a pinch but are really bad at?" That's where I am on driving a manual. The last time I drove one I stalled it out whilst turning onto 64 in cary. That...was unpleasant.

I think many people's knowledge of American history is, in general, shame-worthy. Whether that's a failing of the people, or the schools, or both, I don't know. Not asking you to be able to name every president in succession or to quote the text of the Declaration of Independence verbatim, but you should at least have a clue about the basics.

Engadget has a review on an electric car and because the motor is capable of going from 0 to something-thousands of RPMs, you basically just drive around in 1st gear. Pretty sweet gig if you have $125K just laying around.

Let me clarify. It's one engine that in one gear goes from 0 to 6000 RPMs. From 0 to 6000 RPMs, it also maintains an almost flat torque curve. Point is... do you claim you drive a manual or automatic if you only have one gear?

[Edited on October 26, 2011 at 2:04 PM. Reason : Corrected typos. Not correcting "flat torque curve" because it really is called a "torque curve"...]

Manual means "hands" so if you're not doing anything with your hands, then it's not manual
Automatic implies a machine is doing an act that you'd ordinary have to use your hands for.

In this case, it's neither manual nor automatic if it only has one gear.

Man, you sure got me on adding an extra zero to the number 6,000.

By the way, dumbass, it's called a torque curve because (a) in any other combustion engine that's the name it's given so if you call it a "torque line" you'll just look stupid and (b) I said it was almost a flat torque curve. There will still be some slope to it.

But, whatever. I guess if correcting people's blog posts on TWW makes you feel like a genius working at your pizza shop, I shouldn't take that away from you.

a) This is no ordinary combustion engine

b)
Lines have slope.

Curves have arcs.

Wait a minute... a curve has "arc"? How the f*ck do you measure "arc"? Curves can be described as a function or a single point can be described by it's slope, but an "arc" is a completely different geometric entity. Don't know where you got that one from.

So... failure to understand basic geometry. Is that why you didn't go into engineering?
