This would have been perfect for me when I used to run with my phone.

I fucking destroyed my og droid with a combination of sweat and rain. Probably rain mostly. But having the screen become completely useless after getting a minute amount of sweat on my hands sucked.

Of course now I just run with a $140 watch on my wrist instead of holding a $600 phone in my hand.

"waterproof smartphone"

it's not waterproof. it's water resistant. that can make a big difference. you can't go swimming with it.

similar topic: lifeproof makes waterproof cases for the iphone that you can swim with, take underwater pics with, etc.

^True, though did you watch the ad? The guy is fucking surfing with it and takes quite a few dives. Marketing bullshit I guess.

err.. actually, I may have to take back what I said about marketing bullshit. ^^^and you may be wrong too

"So swim I did. I stuck it in the my swim shorts leg and jumped to the pool. I swam about 20 minutes with it there, before pulling it out and shooting the below video. As you can see, the phone can record video underwater – and any apps that you started above water will continue to display underwater. However as expected, the touch screen itself doesn’t really work underwater (since there’s constant water pressure on it) – but the other buttons do (such as the camera shutter button)."

I suppose they are keeping the term water resistant to cover their ass, but it seems like they have gone well beyond that.

it's just my nature to be skeptical. i still wouldn't trust it to be waterproof

Even many dive watches are labeled as "water resistant to X meters". Which means they're waterproof to a rated depth. It's not marketing bullshit, just terminology

from the review:
Quote :
"The Xperia Active is waterproofed to IPX7 levels, which means that it can withstand submersion in liquid (ocean, pool, lake, beer, cupcake batter) up to 1 meter deep (3ft) for 30 minutes."

Ruined my blackberry with water. dropped in a cup of water once, took out the battery immediately and dried a week in rice and it worked but was flaky, then got rained on and stopped working totally soon after.

But the Droid Razr is supposed to be splash resistant and is much more badass than this phone, so I might go with that.
