I keep wanting to get a 1911 this year . . . but then I realize I have no use for one and I'm working really hard at getting rid of that which I do not need. 10/30/2011 4:12:05 AM

^^ DAO sucks balls...oh my God I fucking hate it. The only DAO pistol I've ever owned is a Kel-Tec P3AT, and then only because there is nothing in that class except DA (except the little SA SIG...but I'm uneasy carrying cocked & locked SA. For a carry gun, I like DA/SA).
They make double-stacked 1911s. It's not as slim of a pistol, which a lot of people don't like, but if you want a hi-cap 1911, the option is there. 10/30/2011 10:47:54 AM

First, no it doesn't.
Second, see Para Ordnance P14 LDA. Double stack with DA trigger and completely pointless. There's absolutely no reason to buy a 1911 and take away the 1 thing that no other gun can match and replace it with a long DA trigger like a thousand other guns have. 10/30/2011 10:54:58 AM

The 1911 is like a Harley. It is a classic piece of Americana, big, loud, good looking, fun as hell to shoot, infinitely customizable but ultimately over-priced and under-reliable.
I still want one, but not enough to drop the $$ on it. 11/6/2011 10:59:37 PM

I think that's maybe being a little unfair to it. It's great in terms of being fun to shoot. Lots of guys have great success with them as race guns, too.
No, I would not choose a 1911 as a tactical carry gun. It might be underreliable compared to, say, a SIG, and it might not hold as many rounds, but I wouldn't necessarily say that they're overpriced. 11/6/2011 11:51:16 PM

There's just something about the feel of the 1911. It just feels right in your hand. It may not have the tactical look of the Springfield XD handguns, but it is a classic. I'd say the same about the Beretta 92FS. 11/7/2011 2:09:39 AM

I've got the Taurus version. It was the first handgun I bought and I've just held onto it. It's a step above the other Taurus weapons I've fired although I've admittedly only had my hands on a few of them. Not a bad choice IMO considering the history between Taurus and Beretta. 11/7/2011 11:33:38 AM

Quote : | "but I wouldn't necessarily say that they're overpriced." | If you want a 1911 which matches the reliability of a Glock or an older Sig or a newer S&W you're going to be paying upwards of $2000. That is a Glock, a backup glock, a holster, some replacement sites, a few spare mags and still about $800 worth of ammunition.
So in that sense, they are. On the other hand, a stock 1911 you just own to own . . . sure, they don't have to cost that much. 11/7/2011 8:02:42 PM

or $600-800... But hey, you can always buy a gen 4 Glock because those have just been the definition of reliable.... 11/8/2011 7:35:16 AM
