While we're on the topic, how much should someone pay for a pickup truck load of wood? It's hard to tell what's a ripoff or not when people don't use standard units of measure.

^ exactly, and you'll find this isnt overpriced. Others charge by the exact amount of stacked wood " 4x8 stack" or they charge by the traditional cord unit of measure. We back up to the giant pile or stack of split wood...fill up(toss not stack) our full size long bed truck until the wood is over the top of the bed with the tail-gate up. Delivered 14 loads since Sunday. We are splitting more now, we let the wood slow age in either full logs, cut length logs, or split. Each "seasons/ages" in a certain time frame. I'll answer more questions if needed. BTW ad is gone from craigslist while we resupply.

The problem is people don't know wtf a standard unit of firewood is. A cord is 4x4x8 feet stacked. Some people will tell you they'll sell you half a cord, which they say is a short pickup load or 4x8 feet stacked. Well, almost no one sells firewood that's 2 feet long so it can't be half a cord.
The best way to measure dry firewood is by weight, but I don't know anyone with a big enough scale.

A full sized 8' pickup load of wood tossed in to the top of the bed would be real close to half a cord and for $85 delivered is a good price. If they pile it higher then that it's even better.

You also have to factor in the location. People would laugh at you if you paid anything for firewood in many rural places. Inside Raleigh $110 delivered for half a cord isn't even bad.

^^^ unfortunately not...well we did 1 load so far this year to Cary but the guy offered 100 and tipped another $10. When he called and said where he was, we tried to tell him that might be a bit too far of a haul for us but he insisted and offered to pay more. Seemed like a real nice guy and made it very convienient on a delivery time. Even given that experience I think we may hold off on 45min deliveries for now.

I'm not sure about measuring wood by the "lb or ton". If you were talking completely dry, lights like a match, wood then you may have an accurate comparison between delivieries. However if you just had somebody with different aged, natural, non kiln dried wood....or somebody with greener wood that was fresh off the log...it would be ALOT denser and thus heavier, maybe double the weight or more.

The dryer the wood, the quicker it burns, the more you use. Most people like either 1) aged wood that is not completely dry but burns easily and a bit longer or 2) a mixture of dry wood and less aged wood within the same load (dry to start the fire and coals then less aged wood that burns longer)
