I don't get it. Are pedophiles the new jews?
I was reading
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-pennstateex-coach-allegations and it says "the school’s athletic director and an administrator were charged with perjury and failing to report"
Sounds an awful like how Germans would get in trouble for not reporting jews.
Also, the sentiment against pedophiles being the scum of the earth, when clearly this pedophile was a hero at penn state (prior to this news) and lived like one of you people for 67 years of his life.
Seems like the next step is to tag a star on them and send them to concentration camps. 11/5/2011 4:48:15 PM

Quote : | "STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN<-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.
The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.
But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.
One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower." |
This is no way to treat an american legend 46 years into his career for committing no crime at all.

I don't think that anyone believes that Paterno committed any crime.
I haven't kept up with all the details, and I believe Paterno's inaction to be disappointing, but this seems to be a very severe reaction, particularly considering the reputation of Joe Paterno.
Now, I can better understand the outrage against the school's administrators, and I obviously hope that Sandusky gets utterly crucified. 11/9/2011 10:53:20 PM

There's a lot of things I don't like in life. I don't like when people call me names. But you know what? I respect his right of freedom of speech. I will fight for anyone's right to call me names.
As with reporting this "grown man that's having sex with a 12 year old boy." Perhaps they're both happy? Who knows. It's not my business. It's between the parents, the boy, and the grown man.
I should have the freedom to remain silent and keep to myself. There is no reason for me to get in trouble for something I didn't do. Punish the people that commit the crimes, don't punish the people that you think can prevent the crime. 11/9/2011 11:55:47 PM

I hope you will be that generous when your child reaches the age of 12 (or 10, or 8) and a grown man decides to take advantage of him/her by having a sexual relationship with him/her, i.e., rapes him/her decides to have a relationship with a grown man. 11/10/2011 6:56:50 AM

He was the head coach while his assistant coach was out fucking little boys. At best he was completely oblivious to what was going on in his own department which makes him a terrible manager. At worst he had an idea of what was going on and chose to ignore it. 11/10/2011 8:07:30 AM

Early reports stated that a player and a janitor (two separate occasions) witnessed Sandusky committing these acts against young boys. Both men reported what they had witnessed to Coach Paterno, who allegedly told the AD; together they did nothing. That makes them accessories.
If you are saying you would not report, prevent, or try to stop a grown man from having sex with raping a young boy or girl, then you are a worthless piece of shit. 11/10/2011 8:20:52 AM

QFT
It's especially odd that GB actually has a kid or two and doesn't think people have a duty to report child rape.
I could see not reporting a victimless crime, but this is ridiculous. I don't know someone didn't beat the piss out of him and drag his naked ass to the police station at the time of the incident.

^^ I understand; heads should roll at Penn State. I'm just saying that I don't think--based on my current understanding--that Paterno should be among them.
What's important for this discussion isn't that Sandusky was cornholing little boys back in '94, all the way up until '99...it's whether or not he still was working for Paterno when Paterno found out.
I'm not saying that Paterno's performance isn't disappointing. I'm saying that firing him seems a little much, and either a knee-jerk or a sacrifice in the name of PR. 11/10/2011 2:12:43 PM

Honestly I don't think it matters. Regardless of whether he knew in 1994 or 2004, he should have reported it to the police and it was negligence on his part not to report it to police. It leaves doubt in his judgement and leaves people to question what he would do if he knew of other criminal acts occurring in his program. It's absolutely a PR move and one that could have been avoided if Paterno had done the right thing in the beginning. 11/10/2011 2:21:16 PM

Being a [practicing] pedophile isn't such a bad thing anymore, and is not fundamentally different from being a homosexual.
At least that's what all the enlightened folks are saying in TSB, including Mr. Genius here.

theDuke866, it hasn't been explicitly spelled out yet so here goes: All of the guys involved in the cover-up, including Paterno, have clear motivations for their actions. To be clear, they were not confused about what to do, and they were not arrogant enough to think they could handle it on their own. And they were not concerned with protecting the victims in some weird way or protecting Sandusky.
Instead, they were concerned with protecting the reputation of the program. This was not a "simple" failure to act. This was a failure to act based on their own individual investments in the Penn State football legacy. They put their personal interests above the health and safety of children--at great cost to the children and to the community at large. 11/11/2011 10:42:18 AM
