Quote :
"RALEIGH -- A touch of Hollywood comes to downtown Raleigh on Wednesday, and that means some closed streets and blocked-off parking spaces.

Crews will be shooting scenes for the movie "Arthur Newman, Golf Pro," starring Colin Firth and Emily Blunt.

Street closures include the 200 block Fayetteville Street and the City Plaza from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the 200 block of West Martin Street from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and the 200 block of South McDowell Street intermittently for short periods from noon to 5 p.m.

The city says parking will be restricted from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. along several streets, including the 200 block of Fayetteville Street and the 100 and 200 blocks of West Martin Street.

since it's a golf movie I imagine they are filming at southern pines, any city shots they may need would probably just be the closest location {i.e. raleigh}

Firth also shot a (horrible) movie almost entirely shot in Durham. Maybe he just likes the area!

Iron Man 3 allegedly got a ton of tax discounts to shoot in North Carolina, so maybe the state is giving some incentives for movies to come out here

^that's pretty cool

I'm sure the state is giving incentives. Michigan is doing the same thing right now. They want their piece of the Hollywood pie.

ya, nc gives huge tax incentives as well as the ability to shoot both beach and mountain locations

NC's tax incentives and some laws regarding filming actually began to make things difficult to film here. I'm sure the dip in economy has changed that some. A friend of mine is trying to get a job on the Iron Man 3 methinks so he can come home for a few months to visit. Which would rock

But an interview Colin Firth gave while here when filming Main Street he does in fact say he loves the area. He said he has brought his family a few times even when not filming.

My brother just wrote me...he's gonna try to be an extra lol

I hope Firth isn't using that sorry excuse for a southern accent in the movie he's currently shooting.

^I just texted my friend working on the movie to see if they need any extras.

we went to visit him a few weeks ago and he had the script to the movie on his coffee table. Makes me wish I had a more exciting job

Don't forget Last of the Mohicans. I think at least part of Cold Mountain was filmed here too.

Hannibal was filmed in Asheville, as well as Richie Rich and other shitty movies. (in addition to those already mentioned).

Dirty Dancing was filmed at Lake Lure. Part of Friday the 13th part 2 was filmed at Lake Powhatan (also near Asheville)

^^ According to IMDB, it was filmed in Romania, NC, SC, and VA. Romania is kind of random lol.

That always aggravated me. "Hey guys! Lets make a film set in North Carolina, but film it in Romania with a mostly English and Australian cast."

Meanwhile Mr. Joshua was shucking damn oysters for a living.

You're right, one day of being inconvenienced and having to park further away is totally a good reason to be glad you don't work downtown.

I'd kill to work downtown
