Why do people have such a hardcore hatred for country music? Is it driven by some sort of subconscious racism? I know quite a few people who I consider very tolerant and open minded but they HATE country. To me their hatred goes beyond a simple dislike for the music and gets kind of weird and over the top.

country made past about 1989 is fucking horrendous. it's formulaic commercial pop with a twang. no songwriting talent like old country. it's just a soulless genre of music right now, imho.

I think what bothers me the most, aside from the shitty music itself, are the southern accents. It's just obnoxious.

^^ You mean fake southern accents from country artists that aren't actually southern? Or are you just discriminatory?

True Story: I absolutely LOVED me some David Allen Coe songs (prob because I grew up in the country and learned to sing along to the popular ones) UNTIL I started listening to other ones and found out he was a racist motherfucker.

BUT with that said, I have come to appreciate country music (even the commercial poppy stuff)

This. Although I would add the caveat that this mostly applies to country music you'd hear on the radio or see awarded at the CMAs or something.

I like plenty of country music -- including a little of the "commercial pop" that manages to get under my skin somehow -- but most of it nowadays is garbage, and not just that, it's pandering garbage. Nothing pisses me off more than a multimillionaire singer with hordes of fans writing songs explicitly about how normal, blue collar, and down to earth he is. You're wearing a cowboy hat that costs more than what I make in a month. You have a personal assistant and bodyguards. You may have some distant memory of what "normal" is, but you damn sure aren't it now.

I mean, most of my family has a southern accent and I had a pretty thick one as a kid...until I grew up in Apex/Cary. I think you're right, they are fake, exaggerated southern accents, and that's what annoys me.

True story: That's not actually him, people just think it is. Kinda like how people think Phish did a country version of Gin and Juice even though Phish isn't a country band.

He does have one song with the n-word in it but it's used in an ironic way. He's got black people in his band after all.

I love country music. But a lot of what is on the radio is not really my flavor of country music. And when you have artists like Linoel Ritchie, Bieber and the dude from Stained claiming to be country, it waters it down even more.

Also, this. I doubt Big and Rich have ever been frog giggin, but that wont stop them from singing about it.

I gotta say there is some really good country music out there though, such as Eric Church and Jamy Johnson. Too bad they don't get much airplay though.

I don't know who wrote specific songs but there's this guy Johnny Rebel who sings a bunch of racist songs that everyone attributes to David Allen Coe.

I'm more of a new country music hater... anywho.....

not saying that the following reasons apply to all of country music or only only country music, but of the music I know, several of the below items tend to be found in many country songs and some mostly in country songs, as opposed to other genres

- perpetuating racism (applies mostly to older country, see ^^^)
- condone redneck/stupid behavior
- fake voices
- stupid songs/lyrics (i.e. thunder's just a noise)
- copycat of top40 music
- enforce the idea that stupid fashion is cool (i.e. dress + cowgirl boots)
- jason aldean
- horrible remakes (i.e. reba)
- horrible singing voices (i.e. reba)

oh, and ^^^ wasn't asking who it was. I was posting that for the country music=racism folks. because new country music isn't racist (at least what I've heard isn't).

while the Johnny Reb part of your assessment is correct...you are DEAD wrong that he didn't write/sing any blatantly racist songs...

listen to N***** Fucker on David Allan Coe X-Rated

and i hate country music today...i mean...i'm as country as they come and i don't sit in my field, drinking beer by my bon fire with country girls shakin' it for me in my pink camo and rhinestones...

it's just ALL so cheesy and eat up with just how "country" can you be...it's not actual music in a genre...it's all pop songs about living like a redneck

i was having this conversation this morning...i love all pre-90s country...and anything George Strait...

I'm convinced Redneck Woman, Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy, and Honky Tonk Badonkadonk were the downfall of country music

[Edited on November 10, 2011 at 1:55 PM. Reason : but i do drink out of a red solo cup occasionally so i'm cool with that]

Also LOL that they censored the first word in the song title but not the second.

^^^ I guess I mean it's more satirical in the sense that the entire album was meant to be offensive and not represent his true viewpoint.

i just figured you were referring to "If That Ain't Country" which definitely fits your original statement...

but you definitely can't back that up when the x-rated album is out there...

Johnny Rebel stuff is no more offensive...there's just more of it...

i mean...General Johnson HATED, and I mean HATED, white people...but his band was made up of white people and that was his target audience...

just so it's noted

Quote :
"Well I think I'd rather eat the barrel,
Of a double-barrel loaded shotgun,
Than to hear that shit they call pop-country music,
On ninety-eight-point-one.
Just so you know, so it's it's set in stone,
Kid Rock don't come from where I come from:
Yeah, it's true, he's a Yank, he ain't no son of Hank:
If you even thought so, god-damn, you're fucking dumb.

Johnny Rebel is all racist music, DAC had one song on one album in a series of albums meant to be offensive. Eminem says a bunch of violent and offensive shit on his albums and I don't think he believes all or even most of it.

Quote :
"i mean...General Johnson HATED, and I mean HATED, white people...but his band was made up of white people and that was his target audience..."

And so... what? We should assume everyone is horribly racist against people not like them?

it does.

ive heard all the racist songs in college, personally i dont give a damn its just not that big a deal to me and i enjoyed most all of them.

im not retarded enough to go on and assume the genre of country music as a whole is not for my race.

hell yea you can be racist as hell and have some dude in your band cooning for a check. Or the dude can be a really really talented musician and financially worthwhile to tour with. thats like saying the producer of power rangers couldnt have been racist or homophobic
