Wait a second. Guns aren't allowed on college campuses, so this can't be correct.

Reporting live from the scene....or near it. We've never had a lockdown at ECU since I've been here. Everyone is freaking out.

Nothing to see here folks; guns are not allowed on campuses, so everyone is safe. Go about your day as normal.

I imagine that when a gunman comes on shaw's campus, it's either:

A) common

or

B) they handle their business while concealing their weapon, without going on a rampage

last time i checked it was legal to own and possess a gun in public, as long as it wasn't concealed. from the way I read that the suspect was not actually on school property.

facebook comments on WNCT's website are golden

Quote :
"This may be a silly question, but how do they know for sure that this allegedly "armed individual" is carrying a weapon with malevolent intentions and not just one of the many students/persons residing in Greenville who hunt? I'm aware that the precautions are necessary but am a bit skeptical of the response team's methods and procedures.

Clarification would be nice."

"GREENVILLE, NC -- The campus of East Carolina University is on lockdown after an armed man was seen nearby.

ECU police are sweeping the campus, and the university says all residence halls have been locked down and are secure. In addition to ECU, three nearby Pitt County schools have also been placed on lockdown. Those are Wahl Coat, Elmhurst and Eastern.

The alert was issued after an armed man was spotted near the corner of 5th and Reade Street around 10:00 a.m.

Residence halls have been locked down and are secure.

ECU has about 18,000 students.

There was also a large-scale police action with Greenville police at 4th & Reade Street. WITN's Lynnette Taylor says police surrounded a Greenville transit bus, but nothing was found.

An ECU alert says there was a report of armed individual on Fifth Street. The alert says people should take shelter inside a building, close and secure doors.

Greenville police say they got a report around 10:00 a.m. of an armed man on East Fifth Street and confirmed the man then crossed onto campus. Greenville police are coordinating the search with ECU police.

Alert sirens on campus were telling people to seek a safe place.

WITN News has multiple crews on campus and will have updates on this developing story as they become available.
"

Wow, that gunman moves quickly, just a few minutes ago this article said ECU has about 22,000 students

There were erroneous reports that the suspect had taken a bus. That is not true.
ECU and City of Greenville buses are secure.

There have been no sightings of this guy since the initial sightings at 10:15 a.m."

Oh Greenville.

This shit has been going on for well over an hour and its not resolved. My brother is saying that students are rumoring a "hostage situation" but who knows if that's even close to true. Someone would have confirmed it.

I love how the term "assault rifle" is just tossed around. Do we have knowledge that the gunman is carrying a fully-auto rifle, or just a semi-auto clone that happens to "look evil".

Quote :
"1. You don't hunt with an assault rifle"

Many people hunt with AR-15s, which most of the population believes are "assault rifles" (but aren't).

Lots of talk of hostages, but no real confirmation. If the students know, the tons of cops on campus know, and there should be some kind of official confirmation.

espn story says he's got an AK

who knows if thats true

and even though open carry is legal off campus, you'd have to be a complete dumbass to OC any kind of long gun near any kind of school

^Yeah, I get that. But if it's not University property, then it's not illegal to open carry. Stupid--probably. Illegal--no. But, I don't know if it's University property or not. My thought is the University claims it as their property either way.
