I don't blame the principal, I blame the other parents.
I deal with and see this shit on a daily basis. My son goes to a special needs Pre-K at a public school. The Pre-K parents have special parking tags to park in a particular lot to walk their child to a locked door where they are met by a teacher to let them in. The elementary and middle school students are supposed to go through carpool and go in through the main entrance of the school. Multiple letters have gone home about this and its even why parking tags had to be issued.
The other parents are always parking in our spots, marching their kids to the locked door, and banging to have someone let their kid in. Then they become enraged when they're informed that their 10 year old has to go in through the main entrance with the other students. Some parents are down right rude about it. It doesn't matter how many times they're notified of drop off procedures, their grown ass kid shouldn't have to follow the rules. That poor principal was probably harassed to death by rude ass parents who were pissed off that they couldn't walk their kid to class.
If they can do it, I should be able to do it. Fuck that! I'll do whatever I want.

One principal vs. 800+ sets of parents? If that principal tried to tell that many parents what was up, he probably won't be there very long. If you think otherwise then you obviously don't understand school politics. 11/17/2011 9:35:49 PM

bottombaby, you should not be afraid to tell those parents what's up. i know a lot of parents probably are not comfortable speaking out in regards to their special needs children, but a lot are, and they should. 11/17/2011 9:37:34 PM

I don't understand school politics.
How can a bunch of busybody parents oust a principal enforcing established rules?
this is why i'm not sending my kid(s) to public schools. fucking worthless. 11/17/2011 9:39:17 PM

This thread especially hits home today because we had a situation today. This woman basically chewed out a teacher because she was told that her child wasn't supposed to come in through this locked door because it was for Pre-K only and that she'd have to go around to the main entrance. She was so uppity about how her child had come in through the Pre-K door before and would do it again. It really pissed me off, but I didn't want to start anything.
Not only is it a school safety issue. . .locking doors and monitoring children in and out of the building, but the 3-4 year olds really don't need to be outside waiting and mingling with children who can be as old as 14 (this is a K-8 school). I don't understand parents who think that they're exceptions to the rule. I don't understand why they lack understanding. And do they really stop and think about what they're teaching their own child... Hmph.

on the other side of things, these parents of typical children seemingly don't understand why special children get special treatment, but how does it feel to be the parent of a child who does get special treatment? always reminded of how your child is different? i read this in the blog of a family with a young child with autism recently.
and
i'm nervous about sending my children to public school as well. regardless of where they end up (private or public) i will be the parent from hell.

Yep. At the school my oldest goes to, parents are allowed to go to the office and the cafeteria for lunch if they want to have lunch with their kids. But if you want to go to your kids class (other than the first of they year when you meet the teacher and stuff) you have to submit to a background check that can take up to 3 weeks. 11/18/2011 9:08:07 AM

This pisses me off to no end, but I dont think its a principal's power trip. He is just trying to make everyone happy.
I do agree though that he should man up and tell the parent's of the normal kids to go fuck themselves.
We are going to do my son's Make-A-Wish trip to Disney in February, and they actually had to give us literature and warn us to expect some people getting pissed off that he gets to go to the head of the line along with one of us as a caregiver for the rides. They said they have had altercations in the past where someone gets angry about "line-cutting".

I made straight A's until my junior year of high school save for one class. the first semester I made nothing lower than a 97, then my teacher left and we got a new one and my first grade with her was a 72, even though I had gotten A's on all my tests. My mother approached the teacher, and she blew her off so she talked to the vice principal who investigated and found out that she had fucked with my grades and it got changed back to an A. 11/18/2011 11:43:52 AM

From their perspective they're probably completely unaware of the kid's medical condition and they've been waiting in line forever. All they see is someone cutting in line. I'd like to think that they would quickly back down when the situation is explained to them. Until then how are they going to know some random line cutter is in Make A Wish?
Kind of like that special locked door for pre-K scenario. Parents probably only see some kid go in that door from their car, walk up to the door, and are later told they can't come in from some obstinate teacher that's right on the other side of the glass. That's their perspective. Again, if they continue to be a confrontational douche after the situation is explained, then yeah, no hope for them. 11/18/2011 1:19:03 PM

I'm pretty sure this isnt the case given the literature we've been given, but I sure hope you are right and it is a simple misunderstanding.
My wife has actually been accosted by people when she parks in the handicap spots, especially if she hasnt unloaded his wheelchair yet.
It's ranged from "You can't park there!" (even though she has a handicapped plate) to "He doesn't look handicapped to me!". (Sometimes my wife carries him instead of pushing him in his wheelchair). 11/18/2011 2:26:13 PM
