Bob the Blade MIA this morning, they're playing mostly 80s music, and all their promo shit is calling it Radio 96.1. 96 Rock was a pretty mediocre rock station but I'll be a sad panda if we lost the only damn rock station left in this area.

I noticed this weekend when I was in Raleigh they were calling it Radio 96.1. I was like WTH, but honestly I only listen to 96 Rock when 100.3 The Buzz (hate their fucking name) goes out. Thankfully I can pick up 100.3 in Chapel Hill/Carrboro so that is my default station in the car unless I am travelling to Raleigh.

Translation: We didn't want to pay DJs anymore so the entire station is being run by the shuffle mode on winamp.

It seriously sounds like that crap station 100.7 turned into after they left the oldies format with some Stone Temple Pilots thrown into the mix. wtf.

^ hahaha I will fully admit that over the years 96Rock had gotten really bad about playing the same songs over and over and over and over and over. Apparently bands only make one or two songs worth playing on the radio. But apparently they took

Yea 96.1 was getting to be pretty stale on the music front (not a lot of innovating on FM these days) but the biggest thing that kept it from just being another internet radio streamed on an FM frequency was some local talent. I think most morning shows suck ass, but keeping it local is one of the only ways to differentiate your station from my iPod. Of course by now my iPod can give me the weather, traffic, news, etc. while I still listen to my own damn music.

Part of what keeps me listening to local radio is being able to hear commentary about local shit that no one nationally gives a fuck about. I guess my only choice for that now is G105, which annoys the shit out of me, or Mix 101.5, which makes me feel like I'm listening to The View.

100.3 the buzz from greensboro or 93.3 from upstate sc needs to be the model for raleigh radio station... Raleighs radio is undoubtedly the WORST i have ever experienced.

Also, lol @ 100.3 being a model radio station. They play the same 10 shitty songs all day and the DJs are all piped in from some national hivemind radio center. Gimme dat 94.5 WXRA

I posted a comment on their FB page about the only real rock station you can pick up in the Triangle now is Octane on sat rad. That shit was gone fast. I see quite a few other posts are missing too. Big surprise the are in damage control acting like everything is fine and we all love the new format.

Are there any local rock radio stations left in the Triangle? Something tells me I'll be reprogramming that button on my radio this afternoon.

Nope. To the east you have 99X in Greenville, and to the west 100.3 in Greensboro. But the Triangle is now the black hole of rock music, unless you have XM/Sirius.

I listen to The River for some classic rock sometimes, but I noticed its 24/7 Christmas music now. Did they just give all the DJs a month off?

Raleigh radio is a pretty decent market if you listen to a variety.

QDR is one of the best country stations in the country.
G105 is a pretty good pop station
Theres a new pop station when i was there this summer (102.5?) that competes with 105
KISS 93.9 is pretty awesome and they play some of everything.
97.5 is decent for hip hop.
BOB93.3 works in the eastern half of the triangle but its a greenville pop station inferior to the raleigh ones
The greensboro market can be picked up in the western half of the triangle and although inferior to teh raleigh market, has some decent stations so that you never have to listen to commercials on the raleigh ones.

Better get iheartradio app and listen to another cities rock station or make your own based on the type of song you like. This app is priceless in value.

And yes as Bobby says 100.3 will pick up good until around RDU, then it drops off big time.
