Just in case this thread is serious (and because I'm bored), I will explain it.

A turtleneck has a long neck on it with fabric that you can pull up over your face, like to your nose generally. Typically, we fold this fabric down around our necks or we scrunch it down around our necks.

A mock turtleneck just has a little piece of fabric that juts out and covers your neck, and it is often very short.

I always thought the mock turtleneck was making fun of the turtleneck for being gay... just like Marky Mark in the Other Guys, you must BECOME the turtleneck to mock it.

The difference between the mock turtleneck and a regular turtleneck is that the mock turtleneck has a shorter neckpiece that does not fold down...thus the term "mock". It appears to be a normal turtleneck that has already been folded down by the person wearing it, but it really has not been folded down.
