Sitting on about 3# of spiral-cut ham, ~1.5# of baked macaroni, and a pie-plate full of assorted casseroles: sweet potatoe, green bean, stuffing... and some turkey

we had a thanksgiving potluck, but as hosts everyone left us a bit of what they brought. what we cooked and have leftovers of are *

creamed corn, collards*, green beans*, mashed taters*, turkey, gravy, ham, squash casserole, stuffing, apple pie*, pumpkin pie*, part of a veggie tray, mini sammiches and carrot cake

the ONLY thing we didn't get leftovers for was the sweet potato casserole

I miss my pre weekend thanksgiving meals that I had with friends.

Stuffed Fish, nut and cranberry mixture, blanched green beans, and a pumpkin soup. Finished with pecan pie.

One year, we had venison, too.

I have leftovers that were pushed on me. I don't want them.

I've already eaten the ham, twice baked potatoes, and cheese cake. The stuffing, mystery pie (no fucking clue what it is), other stuffing (????), and broccoli casserole will hit the trash, unless I get REALLY lazy tomorrow and eat them.

I don't understand why people want everything to be starchy, bland, over salted, and void of nutrition.

[Edited on November 25, 2011 at 10:04 PM. Reason : Mystery pie has me slightly intrigued.]

It has an creme topping that has settled some. It kind of looks like it sat out a little too long. It has a standard crust, and it's set in a tin bottom with a plastic top.

It's a WHOLE pie, so I can't see the innards.

I think it's Lemon Meringue Pie BUT, it's more of a lemon pie, with a mirage film.

Bite soon to come.

I used to be a hater of turkey until I brined one 2 years ago and it came out absolutely fantastic

I mean I still fucking hate turkey

but I'll eat it on Thanksgiving (and a few days later) if I make it

I made a Brined turkey for a dinner party several years ago. The whole group was " I've NEVER had turkey this good/juicy!!!!"

If you want to be authentic, they probably didn't have turkey on thanksgiving. Game birds, venison, adn fish were more likely.

GTFO with the Turkey and gravy hate.

Brine it then smoke it over hickory for about 6 hours. Tastes like heaven.

And gravy? Yeah that goes on everything. The mashed potatoes, the stuffing, the turkey, the veggies. Everything is better with gravy.

The original thanksgiving meal of fish, venison, and game birds sounds better. Turkey is the worst meat. Any meat for thanksgiving would be better. The best turkey is inferior to everything else. Instead of putting 6 hours into making a shitty meat, spend the time doing something better.
