^IIRC the vast majority of popular music in Eurasia is dance music, usually some cheezy house or trance.

also indeed Turks are not Arabs, but it's hard for cornfed whitebread Uncle Kracker to distinguish between them at a glance or to distinguish them from Kurds, Persians, Palestinians, Syrians, Lebanese, Armenians, Assyrians, Mizrahiyim, Egyptians, Berbers, possibly even the Mediterranean peoples of Europe

anyway I ♥ "Sambassim" by Fernanda Porto (Brazilian Portuguese): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlVJ7cBAqRQ
and also "Désenchantée" by Mylène Farmer (Canadian French): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XazOkXRTyR4

Your bf turned out to be a terrorist? News to me... details please.

Then it was Turkish pop/dance music. That's not real Turkish music; that's a recent invention, like a couple of decades old (Britneys and Christinas of Turkey). Real (classical) Turkish music is more than a thousand years old. Classical turkish music uses those old stringed intruments and the singing is nothing like the singing in Turkish pop/dance.

Having said that, I do like some turkish pop/dance. Two of the most popular guys are:

Mustafa Sandal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np8RG-Ne2Vo (one of the few non-dancey meaningful ones)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwx37KsoleU
Tarkan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c9u4MxO4pg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wKtFVC2_DM

**********************************************************************

I like dance music, and some of it is in German, Dutch, Swedish, French, etc. Some is bilingual, usually Arabic-English, Hindi-English, or Arabic-Hindi. (or Punjabi instead of Hindi)

Examples: (Note: first 4 videos have hot skimpily dressed chicks)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQian1hYNaA (German)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twFNTZ6Y_OI (English version of above)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0ugWJNNv4 (German)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDqKOq6-6k (Arabic-English, with some Arabic rap)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUK7MeLIcXA (Punjabi-English hip-hop/reggae)

Also listen to E Nomine, a German electro-gothic group... I wonder if there are other E Nomine fans here. Their best stuff:

Mitternacht: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ylwH0w0GhA
Vater Unser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2qzpERZGTw

haha...no...he wasn't really a terrorist...

that's just what i called him...

i told him he could either be referred to as a) the terrorist or b) the old ass, turkish asshole...

his replay was, "I NOT OLD! "

so "the terrorist" it is!

Well then, if he wasn't a terrorist, and if he wasn't horrible to you, that's not nice to refer to him as a terrorist. That's quite bigoted of you (and also ignorant, as I don't recall any Turkish terrorist on the news in the past 10 or so years). And in today's political climate, that's not a label you want to be throwing around lightly like that. Because someone could take it seriously and call the DHS on him....

It would be like him referring to all white girls as whores or as bimbos. You wouldn't like that.

I thought people were trying to be nicer to each other all over the world? And I am surprised no one else ITT said anything after you referred to his as a terrorist.

Anyway, it is your life.

If it's from Macross (any series), I listen to it. Lots. Learned how to sing quite a few songs in Japanese even though I'm a bit out of practice with verbal communication.
