Any funeral home that would allow this is ripe to get sued. Unless someone performs it - then it's ok. Copyright law is retarded, for the record. 12/12/2011 2:48:42 AM

Yes, but who is going to be that dick that reports a copyright violation during a funeral? Also, if the funeral home doesn't want to take on the liability, they can allow the family to bring in something to play the music. This was done at my uncle's wake--the family brought in a stereo to play several songs that had meaning to him.
For the record, my choice might be "Don't Carry it All" by the Decemberists. Kind of a message to those left behind. 12/12/2011 10:05:19 AM

The funeral home down the street or across town is usually the one to turn them in. We've had customers get hit with it; it's not pretty. With legal fees and everything it's usually a $20K+ venture. 12/12/2011 10:59:17 AM

My dad passed away in December of 2010.
At his ceremony, we played:
James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven Ben Folds - The Luckiest
I am over Stairway to Heaven, but Goodbye My Lover is a very powerful and moving song in this situation. The Luckiest was my dad's song to my mom that he used to sing to her. Also very powerful. 12/12/2011 11:09:19 AM

My old man had that song played on the organ during the recessional at his funeral. It was pretty badass and Im not certain that everyone realized what it was. 12/12/2011 3:44:25 PM

It's pretty incredible how a post on TWW years ago becomes a funeral request.
