the wife just mentioned it to me yesterday saying a lot of parents are doing it.

tell you what, if I have to resort to moving a freaking doll around the house every day to get my kids to behave, I have failed as a parent

They were very popular when I sold them at a toy store ~5 years ago. The elf thing has been around for a while (My Grandmother used to place them around the house and tell us they were watching for Santa). But the book is from 2005.
