Lots of pics, and video: http://www.alabamawx.com/?p=55225

Amazing.

In fact, they are formed by the same fluid interactions that form tsunamis in the oceans; lighter liquid but faster-moving liquid dragging along on the surface of a denser slower-moving liquid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin%E2%80%93Helmholtz_instability

On that note, here is the one of the most spectacular natural/wildlife phenomenon ever:

Murmuration

Starlings are freaky birds. I think they're where Hitchcock got his movie idea initially.

Actually he got the idea from a short story called "The Birds"

Quote :
"The story was inspired by the author seeing a man ploughing a field while seagulls were wheeling and diving above him; Du Maurier developed the idea of these birds becoming hostile and attacking.[1] It is implied that the East Wind is connected to the birds' attackā€”a possible reference to the threat of Communism and the Cold War in which the USA and UK were embroiled in the 1950s and '60s"

lol I might have to read this story.

I took a film & literature class at State where we would read a book then watch the movie adaptation.

Pretty cool class.

[Edited on December 20, 2011 at 10:38 AM. Reason : That's where I read this story and watched the movie, not just listing random classes i took lol]
