I think it's because chicks are often posing for pictures with big, sometimes even exaggerated toothy grins, and the threshold at which it becomes creepy looking (unless you have excessive TGR, like you mention) is pretty high.
Conversely, a dude can pretty easily look like:

i think this has more to do with the fact that a disproportionally small upper lip tends to be present in women more often than men. i personally don't mind a gummy smile. they still look all  12/20/2011 11:13:09 PM
