I do not like this movie because it shows rape.

just wanton cruelty and gore... but at the same time, not like your typical horror movie.

i just couldn't believe what i was seeing.

at the end though, just before the doctor/father microwaved his daughter's rapist's head, i thought he was going to slowly torture him to death, going by earlier cruelty in the movie.

^ in many ways, the rape scene was harder to stomach than the torture/gore/stabbings/shootings.

I haven't seen the new one but the original is pretty throughout. Just with early seventies (or was it 60's?) special effects.

The remake is "toned-down" compared to the original.

At least, that one scene is.

The Final

More gore and cruelty

I will be having awesome dreams tonight!

^ Didn't know there was an original. Might have to hunt it down.

i haven't see the old one, just learnt now that an old one exists.

i have no way to compare. on its own, the one i saw was terrible. doesn't mean i can't imagine a movie depicting far more cruelty.

Old one is on Netflix instant btw.

Is it really more fucked up? I mean that scene is pretty messed up so I guess it could be. The gore/violence seemed not that turrible to me though.

If I recall correctly, that scene is more disconcerting.

It goes on longer, and has a more prominent emotional impact based on the acting / directing.

If the remake made you uncomfortable / horrified / disgusted / etc., then I wouldn't really recommend watching the original.

So its like the same movie except its the victim not the family doing the Justicing.

That sounds like my kind of movie.

(favorite sub-genre is the revenge movie)

Though neither of those made me as uncomfortable as the opening scenes from Mystic River.

Rape scene in Irreversible makes this scene look like something out of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

The fire extinguisher scene

One of those things you have to know about in order to know about.

ok i am watching it again right now as i missed the first 40 or so minutes earlier today.

btw, before she ran off, she bashed the guy in the face with a rock. how come there were no visible injuries on his face when they got to the house just a bit later?

I watched the original and wasn't that . Seemed normal to me.

And LOL at Mr. Joshua.

But, seriously, somebody describe the horribleness so I can remember it and be disgusted and whatnot. As it is,

And I did.

Just woke up. I can clearly remember one dream where people were chasing me and my family, and even though I had a Lamborghini, I still couldn't get away. I got into the car with my family, pulled out of the parking, and faced a slightly uphill road. So I shifted from 2nd to 1st gear, but the Lambo still accelerated like a snail. I think the chasing by vehicle had to do with the 2nd movie below, which I also watched last night:

The Last House On The Left
Tomorrow, When The War Began

Can't remember what happened after I couldn't get away.
