I use a firebird for forearm shots, wraith for overhand/backhand, champion roc for mid range and a champion aviar for putting.

I have a ton of other discs but since I only play Kaplan these days it's not worth it to bring them. Honestly I can get away with just my firebird and a putter there. grew up playing at Cedar Hills. used to be great in high school and pretty good in college but fell out of it in grad school when friends moved

Making the jump to pro this year. We'll see how that goes.

Living in Connecticut right now, and other than the weather, the disc golf up here is great. The competition is nothing like in NC, but the courses in general are fantastic. Warwick NY, Maple Hill MA, Wickham CT, Borderlands MA are great courses.

But I'm switching over to rock climbing during the winter. I think it's a bad combination of sports. Makes my elbows hurt. Oh well.

Backhand: primarily wraiths, cd, esp comets, buzzzes, wizard
Forehand: Primarily wraith and firebird, comet and wizard
Overhead: glo/11x firebird

I definetely use more than just that, but those are my main throwers.

This is the year I step it up. I want to get my rating up from 928 to 948.

tl, good luck jumping up! I can only imagine the commitment to maintain that skill level.

Also helps that there's about 3 real pros in New England. Still would be a middling advanced player in Charlotte. Moved to Connecticut in July, went 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 1st in Adv/MA1 in the tournaments I played up here. That's pretty much what I wanted to accomplish in MA1. Get some consistency, get a couple of wins, I'm out. I'm sure to get slaughtered for a while in MPO, but it'll be fun. I've been averaging 960 since I moved up here.
I had to take all of 2010 off from playing due to a knee injury, and my first several tournaments in 2011 were utter dogshit. Got a new record low round rating of 840 in Asheville last May. That was pretty much my bottoming out point. Turned it around, started playing really well, finished strong. Hope I can carry that into next year (and it's too damn cold to play during the winter).


Distance: Destroyer (hyzer), Viking (straight to turnover), Sidewinder (turnover)
Fairway: tl
Mid: Vibram Ibex (hyzer, or to stick/no skip), Buzzz (straight to gentle hyzer), Coyote (slight turnover)
Putt: Yeti Pro Aviar (putt), Super Stupid Soft Wizard (downhill approach, no skip), Vibram Summit (hyzer approach)

Don't really have a distance forehand. Destroyer or TL if I have to. I prefer to work a turnover, though.

I'm not planning on it.

Lived in Charlotte and Greenville for the last 4 years. Moved to Connecticut in July, one week before worlds in Rochester, NY. Too late to register there and get a full week off of work. Now in 2012 I'm 10 hours in the wrong direction, again.

But I'm also doing it a little out of spite. Last time I saw the course schedule I was disgusted by it. MPO, FPO, and MA1 were fine, but the other female divisions got screwed. FPM gets the pleasure of playing Mule Trail (Elon) and Bailey? Holy shit. You shouldn't put anyone over the age of 12 on those courses. They're crap courses. Bailey has 10 holes under 200 feet. That's an absolute embarrassment. (Talk to Craig W. I agree with anything he says about worlds.)
So I'm using that outrage to justify not taking a week off of work to fly to Charlotte.

Looks like they're meeting on 1/18 to get the final schedule nailed down, so my outrage might be premature. But still, no, not gonna make it. Don't have enough vacation days on the year for that. I'm planning on coming back for the High Country Throwdown, though.

i am planning on it if they change the courses that the ADV players are going to be using.

I will have to wait until registration opens up for everyone though since I didn't get to chance to play many tournaments last year.

I'm glad you guys feel the same way as I do/did. However, I'm trying to get involved over here and make a difference. As was said in the CDGC message boards, the premature schedule can pretty much be thrown out the window.

I've played there once. Had a tournament scheduled up there back in August and then that "hurricane" came through and flooded the shit out of that place. 4 or 5 baskets were drowned up to their bands. Took a month for the water to recede far enough to play. So the tourney was finally rescheduled and we got to play a couple of rounds in an absolute swamp with the water still 5' high. And grass that hadn't been cut in a month or two in many spots.

But anyway, it was a fun course. Pretty open, but most holes still had challenges. A little bit of distance, but most holes were still reachable for birdie. Several holes up there at 350'-400', which is nice; far enough to be challenging, close enough to get a few birdies out of there if you have a nice drive.

I won't be driving there much to play casually. It's 1:30 away, and Maple Hill is right on the way and 20 minutes closer. But I'll definitely make it back up there for any PDGAs this year.

So all of you pretty much use innova.

Anyone using discraft? I've had a lot more success with their FLX and SS lines than any other. I love the FLX plastic for mid range.

I just use innova because i'm in innova country here in charlotte. i don't have any innova mids in my bag though at the moment. I putt with a SSS wizard.

A lot of people up here swear by the SS line stuff, I just haven't given them that much of a try yet.

The only plastic I have thrown a Nuke in is the X-Plastic. I choose the x-plastic because they are domey which helps give it more glide compared to a flat Nuke. I also only throw it on open holes to try and keep the disc from beating in too quickly.

I have thrown a NukeSS and I didn't like it. I also have a NukeOS but that is only used for shots that turn hard left after some distance like hole 4 from the long pads at Harris Lake.

I am not sponsered by discraft/dga nor ever will be sponsored. I just think Discraft is more consistant in their molds/plastics. Innova's quality control isn't always the greatest. However if there is a variation on how a discraft disc flies, it is generally based on color(pink and red are most overstable for example). So I could have a wasp and lose it and go and get another wasp the same color and they should fly pretty much the same. If I lose a 11x Firebird and try to replace it with a current run of firebird, they won't fly the same...the 11x Firebirds are more overstable than the current run(unless you get a glo firebird). Also Innova has a bad habit of changing molds or plastics and not for the good. When I threw innova, I threw beasts as my main driver....then they changed the mold to make it turn more....so If I wanted to throw the beasts I am use to, I am going to be forced to spend $25+ on a replacement. Similar things with the rhynos. I use to put with proline rhynos. They were very soft and gummy. Then the plastic changed to pro and they were a little stiffer. Now the plastic is r-pro and that plastic doesn't hold up as well...I have seen r-pro rhynos that have stress marks on them from where they hit a tree or object hard...not good

anyone playing in the Sanford tournament this weekend? Looking forward to my first temp course experience (on a ball golf course, nonetheless)


also, pretty surprised that the Raleigh Winter Jam filled last week- a good 2.5 weeks before the tournament. Looks like the change to cedar brings out more people?


and to go along with what everyone else was doing, I throw:

Innova: Sidewinder (star and champ), Destroyer (for short rescue forehands), Aviar (KC for turnover and Yeti for putting), san marino star roc (turn over), valkerie (star), Beast (got 2 champ- one beat to fuck, one just right), and a couple other super speed discs which are getting less and less use (Katana, vulcan, archon, etc)

Discraft: Stalker, Buzzz (Z and Glo), Wasp, Nuke (for hyzers skips), Meteor (turnover)

Other: DGA GumPutt - amazing hit and stop putter, although a little more stable than I would like

I have gotten into glow golf and now have a glow bag: Aviar, Stalker, Valk, Buzz, Firebird, and ordered a glow sidewinder (these are all champ glow- got some dx stuff too, but I don't like those as much)

I'm also still trying to work on my forehand- a definite work in progress! but hopefully by this summer I can have that down and be using more of my destroyer! Also, i will use any of my drivers for an overhand shot, but those are simply for relief. Due to past shoulder injuries, my max distance for an overhand is about 150ish feet, and that is still only usable about 4 times max during a round

distance and flick have been the bane of my dg existence for the last year or so... I've maxed out back hand at about 300-330ish, and forehand is non-existant. I find that when I focus on my form, a standing backhand goes as far/further than a walk up X-step. So basically i need to work on that and slowly re-incorporate the walk up and focus on hips before shoulders... blah, it's so frustrating!
