My work only gives giftcards as bonuses that are outside of any compensation plan. Needless to say I have about $550 of Macy's giftcards.

There isn't much there that I want so I would like to unload these. What is the best way to get cash? If I buy a few items there on a giftcard and then return it does that get me the $$$?

I've used the site plasticjungle.com a few times and have never had any problems. For Macy's they give you 84% of the value. So with 550 they'd give you roughly 460 bucks cash, either paypal deposit or check. Unfortunately Macy's isn't one of the companies they do electronic trades with, so you'd actually have to send in the card. I've done this method before and it was fine, just takes longer.

Yeah gift card bonuses suck. My company gives us $50 visa cards, but then adds the $50 to our pay stubs as taxable income. This results in each employee getting approximately $20 deducted from their paycheck due to the taxes being removed. So all in all we get a $30 bonus at the end of each year.

we do get to choose the merchant but its either omaha steaks, macys, red lobster or lands end.

nothing that i'd really use.

sucks that i can't get the cash. just looked quickly at giftcards.com and they'll give me about 350. another person sent me a link for plasticjungle and they'll give me 462..not bad i suppose.

Yeah, you can always post something on a site like Craigslist and if no one is interested, just sell it yourself.
