video in link

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/01/08/bungee-jumpers-cord-snaps-video_n_1192716.html

the snapping makes a loud sound.

i find it interesting that the end of the cord falls into the water (with a big splash) before the jumper does.

zambezi river is croc-infested, but i guess they were all full or sleeping. she had to swim to the spot where the cord got stuck and free it, and then swim ashore. her legs were bound the whole time

fell 350+ feet!

p.s. she swam to zimbabwe instead of zambia.

haven't watched it, but i imagine her falling speed reaches near-zero when the cord snaps, so there's an elastic response that causes the end of the cord to shoot by her and hit the water first

Why do you find it interesting that the cord falls into the water first?

The crocodiles were about 100 miles 160 kilometers up the river, but saying croc-infested makes it sound all the more dangerous.

you mean kilometres, just to be consistent with the article

we swam in a bay off of Magnetic Island that is usually infested with box jellyfish, but they weren't in season

there were CPR instructions on posts all over the place lol

quite sobering to see this happen...although i'm sure it would be wayyyyy less likely in the united states.

i've been skydiving, probably would never bungee tho

from what I can gather skydiving is considerably safer than bungee jumping.

By "infested" they really mean "crocodiles exist in that river system

First off, I'm not certain, but I don't think it's common for crocs to be foraging in rapidly moving river systems like that. "Infested" is probably a media ploy to blow the details out of proportion.

Secondly, I know this isn't the only thread on the subject, but to those who have bungee jumped before, is it normal for the cord to look as frayed as that?!?! Fuck that shit.
