I agree that there is a hole there.

At some point it's going to flip a bitch where people who graduate from college with bs degrees that can't do anything make less then a plumber on the job for 4 years..

now the other problem is, in non union labor states... "skilled labor" isn't so skilled in some cases... it can be 10 people who don't know what the hell they're doing being watched by 1 who does.

oh, and TKE-Teg too.

work in a community college for long enough and you'll realize hes spot on.

or better yet why not submit your degree and current occupation so we can determine if you're even able to submit your opinon of what he has to say?

just a thought-

uh.... most plumbers make more/hr than the average person with a BS degree, now.

I've fantasized about taking an apprenticeship when I get out of the navy and doing something like plumbing, foundation work, welding, or electrical work. I feel like it's just too much of a gamble, but those guys make $Texas. (When they have work.)

I remember having one of those dorm-room conversations when I was a freshmen listening to the other students talk about where they came from, what they are studying, and what they did for work. It became really apparent exactly how oblivious to 'work' a lot of college students were. The idea that someone would call a manager who asks them to work on a holiday a 'slave driver' or that an employee would bitch because they were asked to do just a little bit more than their job description outlined is just amazing to me.

I don't think college students are that weak that they can't do the work. As Mike Rowe said, I feel like a lot of them just feel entitled to not have to do that kind of work.
