We were in the Bahamas over the weekend and we met a couple who was on a cruise. They said the cruise ship wasn't showing any news of the cruise ship sinking on the TVs on the ship

They didn't know the cruise ship had sunk until they got off the ship in Freeport.

Five more bodies found.

When asked, the ship captain had this to say:

Herpa lederp derp derp derpa herpa derp!

How much did you actually pay since you undoubtedly used coupons to get there on the cheap?

I work in the accounting department for my mom's travel agency so I get a "travel agent's" discount at hotels when I travel.

Flights were through Vision Air.

Total for round trip flights and hotel for 2 people was right around $972.00

Flights were ~497.00 total for 2 and hotel was $475.00. The hotel bill included room service, food, drinks etc

In Italy, it's a 12 year prison sentence if convicted. They don't play with their maritime law!

One of the articles I read said people were stuck inside the ship, and couldn't get out / had to tie bedsheets together to get up the hallways.

Yeah, you'd have to be an idiot to drown in this lovely little swimming pool in the pitch black. Passengers were told to go back to their cabins and wait. Hell on earth.

Theyre trapped IN a boat. Nobody has been able to swim through walls since the philadelphia experiment.

The device worn by the guy in the photo is specifically a bottom timer and nothing else -- it shows you current depth, max depth, time, and temperature. It does not calculate anything.

Other devices calculate a no-decompression limit based on several decompression algorithms. If you stay past NDL, many will calculate a deco stop or two for you.

Steaming too close to the coast, make a dumb-shit move, and vessel completely worthless. I hate it when that happens.

Wow...That's terrible.
And a good example of why you have to use some common sense, look out for your own best interests, and not blindly follow the self appointed leaders in situations like this.

in every interview, and every news anchor keep saying how much it is like the titanic. Let's list some reason why it is NOT the same as the fucking titanic and more like a capsized cruise liner 100 yards from shore:

-death toll is like 11 (1503 died from the titanic wreck)
-rescue equipment like a helicopter (titanic, no helicopters)
-captain abandoned a relatively non threatening situation where he could actually help rescuers and help them understand the layout of the ship and other intricacies (Capt. Smith stayed on board and went down with his ship like a real man)

Yeah but how many other big ships that've sunk could the average person name?

Probably zero, so Titanic is their only natural comparison, however non-analogous they may be.

Up to 1987, the Titanic disaster marked the Second greatest loss of life in peacetime maritime history. (over 1,500) On December 20, 1987, the overcrowded Philippine ferry boat, Dona Paz, collided with an oil tanker off the island of Mindoro (south of Manila) The Dona Paz flipped over and sank taking with it the lives of 4,536 passengers and crew.

Prior to the Dona Paz tragedy, the greatest maritime loss of life in peacetime is credited to the SS Sultana. The Sultana was assigned to bring home US soldiers liberated from the confederate run POW camp at Andersonville,Texas. She picked up her 2,200 union soldiers at Vicksburg, MS in August of 1865, On the way home one of her boilers exploded and she sank killing 1,647 passengers and crew.

it was a capsized vessel and people died, that is the story... I get it if the survivors wanna make that analogy, it must of been tramatic, but what is with all these dang news stories
