I really don't think that "planned suspensions" like this should be tolerated. If it was his plan all along to quit one name and pay for another, that's all fine and dandy, but to go out in a "blaze of glory" just because you don't want the name anymore, is really a dick move.

I think his new name should be suspended for the amount of time that his old name would have been suspended for. This sets a bad precedent for the future. It's ok to break the rules as long as you have $5 handy to get out of jail. And yes, I know people have bought aliases in the past in order to get out of jail, but usually it's a little while after the fact, and not so obvious that the original offending behavior was planned as a "death by moderator"
