LOL! The police don't know escalators can be used as stairs.

They're probably all like "The owners manually strictly prohibits the usage of escalators as stairs. Obey my authoritay!"

this comment made me

"Too many posters must not live in big cities. Sometimes these subway/metro stations are 5 stories underground. Could you walk up 5 flights of stairs with a coat and full book bag on?"

Something tells me this person is a fatty.

i was at the RBC center a few weeks ago for a hockey game, and left during intermission to go smoke. Apparently the escalators weren't working, so they had them roped off, with a guard at the entrance.

I asked why I couldn't just walk down them like they were stairs. His response? "Because it's an escalator, sir."

The only logic explanation is that the floor above was full of people and people couldn't walk up anymore because there was no room.

The police shut the escalators off ... first.

The police closed off the exits... second.

The people walked up the escalator stairs until the lobby was full...third.

The people were stuck... forth.

Did it say the police closed off the exits? (I didn't read the article)

Due to a police action all escalators at the World Trade Center Path station were shut down resulting in hundreds of people waiting to exit the station.

When people say overly idiotic things like this, I like to think they're just trolling, but usually they're not

From what you posted, that does not say that police closed off the exits (unless they closed the "escalator exits"...which doesn't make any sense).

There you go. The exits were blocked. I said by police, but it was actually the herd of human cows blocking it.

I suppose I was being illogical for assuming people were smart enough to say "excuse me" to get people to move to the side to let them pass.

I have now lowered my standard for humanity for a second time in two days.

This really happened in DC... the escalators malfunctioned and threw people to the platform.

A broken escalator can be a safety hazard depending on why it is broken. Stores and sporting arenas and such usually rope them off just to make sure no one gets hurt on them for whatever reason. Liability, son.

But that guard is hilarious whether intentionally or not.

The DC metro escalators have been an ongoing saga for years. Even the ones they rehab seem to immediately start breaking down again. It is easy to say take the stairs, but some of the stations are buried incredibly deep. Up to 150 feet in some cases.

remember when that escalator somewhere in the midwest started going out of control at insane speed and shredding people up that were on it or something

like hunks of meat were being ripped up at the bottom and people had to climb to safety over the bodies and limbs
