Where's the best place to get some good old chicken and dumplings. So far the best place is this little grill in Buies Creek, they got me addicted to these things. Now I'm on a search for them. Also know of any good kinds you can get in the grocery store>?

It's on the menu at Humble Pie.

Pretty sure Mama Dip's in Chapel Hill has a good one too.

My sister's boyfriend came to visit for Christmas. He is from Italy and wondered if chicken n dumplins had tomato or olive oil in them.

It's chicken, stock, flour, and buttermilk. You shouldn't have to buy it premade.

You'll probably be best served to prepare them in your home.

I've always thought restaurant chicken and dumplings would be kinda suspect. I say this as someone who's never eaten them in a restaurant.

You can buy Anne's Frozen Dumplings at the store. Cook with chicken.

For restaurants, Big Ed's downtown has to die for chicken pastry.

My mom's house

But seriously, you can't go to my mom's house. I can, however, get the recipe if you really want to make it yourself.

Are we talking the delicious fluffy biscuit like dumplings or the gross flat pie crust like dumplings?

I don't know what "American style" means.

I believe its just Chicken pastry, and they're the same thing. I'm liking these ideas of where to find them. I watched the videos of Anne's dumplings online and it looks easy enough and i'm gonna make them tomorrow. Keep them coming!

They are not the same thing. Chicken and pastry =\= Chicken and Dumplings, and "American Style" is certainly not pastry. Fuck, what the hell does American style even mean? If you're differentiating North & South it makes sense...

Anyway, the answer is my goddamn apartment. I will make you a pot of the best chicken and dumplings, tempered by pure generational lineage and a whole lot of white power.

I didn't even know there was a southern style or northern style. Northern style means fluffy?

If so it's one of the only northern style things I prefer.

^^Pastry (noodle-ish) is more Northern. Biscuit (fluffy) is more Southern, but a lot of Southerners make it like chicken & pastry and call it dumplings.

There are also more chewy ones that are almost like matza balls. My moms recipe was just flour and egg which made a super chewy dumpling. I've tried every variation on it included adding fat and leveners. That just turned it into baseball sized dumplings

And there's the fancy kind:

This is what I grew up with. Hell they probably were matza balls and they just called it chicken and dumplings considering the amount of Jews that lived in my neighborhood as a kid lol. It wasn't until I moved down here that I had chicken and pastry.

This scares me

I don't know why (kinda like casseroles scare me)

But it wasn't something I grew up on, so I'm so hesitant to try it (mostly because I don't know where to get a good bowl of it)

my inlaws (and most of the old southern people around them) call this chicken pot pie.

Drives me up the wall.

If that's chicken pot pie, what the fuck is this?
