most of them are on the main road near where i live & there are a ton of retail shops so i'm assuming most of it comes from that but there is a theft, assault & robbery within a stone's throw of my house.

and 3 thefts at my gym... not surprised. i bet 90% of this stuff is car related

From the Durham perspective, no shootings or assaults, just dumb shit like thefts.

well, 32 including robberies and 2 aggrevated assaults. 7 residential Burglaries, rest are larceny.

I suspect that most burglaries are done by people who know the victim.

So, crime prevention step #1: Don't have skeavy "friends" or family.

After that, there's not much you can do besides locking your car doors and not parking in dark alleys on the bad side of town. Of course, if you're conspicuously wealthy, then there are a few other steps you should take. But, in the absence of associating with losers, crime is pretty random and out of your control in my opinion. You can prepare for it, but you can't prevent it...in the rare cases that it happens.

nothing within 1/2 mile of my place...15 within a mile:

6 larcenies, 5 burglaries, 3 larcenies from motor vehicle, 1 motor vehicle theft

with the exception of 2, all took place in apartment complexes geared toward college students...i know the motor vehicle theft one and that was a case of an acquaintance's car being towed due to being 1 day over their inspection date
