Quote :
"While Easter may be a few months away, those with a DVD or Blu-ray movie collection can hunt for some hidden "Easter eggs" on their favorite discs.

In case you're not familiar with the term, "Easter eggs" on DVDs are hidden goodies you can find on many of today's (and yesterday's) movies by pressing the correct sequence of buttons on the remote, using during the menu screens and not the film itself.

Not listed on the back of the box, DVD Easter eggs can be an alternate ending to a film, secret game, blooper reel, celebrity interview or music video.

The following are a few eggs-trordinary examples of these secrets to hunt for in your DVD collection.

Inception

Insert the second disc (Special Features) of this Christopher Nolan thriller and once the menu loads, enter these numbers on your remote: 528491. Doing this will cause a picture of Cobb's spinning top to appear. Press Enter on this to view a motion comic that sets up the events at the beginning of the film. The number 528491 is a series of random digits that Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy) gives to the team, when Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) asks him to give the first six digits that come to mind. There's also a great music-based Easter egg in Inception you can learn about here.

The Ring

Dreamworks' creepy The Ring is about a deadly video tape that kills whoever watches it within seven days. OK, so the premise is ridiculous but good luck getting in a good night's rest after watching this flick. The Ring features a scary Easter egg, too: Pop in the disc and from the main menu, press the Up arrow on the DVD remote and the cursor will disappear. Now press Enter to be treated to the disturbing (and deadly) video tape from the film. Even scarier is that a phone will ring a few seconds after being taken back to the main menu — just like in the movie!

Memento: Limited Edition

Fans of this film may recall the story is not told in chronological order. But you can — if you can find the Easter egg. Pop in the second disc from this two-DVD set and when the animation stops, select the clock out of all these images and you'll be presented with multiple choice questions. Select answer "C" for all and another test will appear on the screen asking you to place the pictures of a woman changing her car's tire in chronological sequence. The answer is to put them in reverse order (3, 4, 1 and then 2). If you do this correctly, the movie credits will roll backwards and the film will then play in chronological order.

The Girl Next Door

In Fox's risqué comedy, there is a fitting Easter egg hidden on the disc. Insert the B side of the movie (supplemental material) and scroll down to highlight Gag Reel on the main menu. Instead of pressing Enter, tap the Right button on the DVD remote and the words "XXX" will appear. Press Enter to watch an actual sex education film distributed to schools in the 1970s! It's not appropriate for kids, mind you, but is quite tame -- and enjoyable -- by today's standards.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Speaking of Star Wars, who knew Yoda was into hip-hop? Watch the lean green dancing machine get his groove on by unlocking a hilarious clip of Yoda bustin' some moves with a posse of stormtroopers behind him. To access it, enter the Options area from the main menu, and then use the DVD remote to press numbers "11" (or "10+, 1," depending on your DVD player), followed by "3" and then "8," to launch the secret music clip. "1138," by the way, refers to George Lucas' first feature film, THX 1138."

Kind of neat - maybe [old] - going to try a few when I get to the house.

Wonder how many more there are out there....

I always thought stuff like this was cool, but I wondered if it was supposed to be stuff you learned about via word of mouth or is it similar to video games in that you just try to explore everything with the assumption that something might be there?

Also, this reminds me of the Doctor Who episode "Blink."

To be honest, I don't know if this is [old] or not either, but I have never heard of this.

Though I am familiar with easter eggs in various other forms of media.

On dodgeball you can hit "ENTER" every time Ben Stiller snaps his fingers... but be careful b/c one of those is the whole film with commentary...

So good. The friend that introduced me to the series bought me a tee for Christmas that says, "Don't blink!" underneath three weeping angels.
