don't be a pussy... take it like a man! lol
look, it depends on what you are getting done... if you need a procedure that causes pain, there is always local anesthetic, which hasn't changed since you last went. 2/7/2012 8:33:37 AM

i went to adam moore in garner...good reviews on google and i their prices are some of the lowest (even though i have insurance now, i wouldn't if my wife's dental coverage wasn't so good...my employer's sucks)
it's been about 5 years since i've been (and only then to get a small filling)...i was surprised that fluoride treatment (the trays with gel) aren't covered under insurance, but my exam (4 x-rays, photographs, cleaning) was free 2/7/2012 8:48:53 AM

^^ exactly...mine was going to be ~$30/month and exams/x-rays were NOT free...rather, i have a $50 yearly deductible and then i'm responsible for 20%
my wife's is $18/month, same yearly deductible, but all maintenance type things are "free"

IMO, dental insurance is a waste of money unless you truly have dental problems or need a series of procedures over the course of coverage.
Am I the only one who goes to the dentist with regularity? It seems like friends of mine never go or go once every 3-4 years. I have been going twice a year for as long as I can remember. And I pay <$200 a year paying out of pocket where as I could be spending ~$400 just to carry dental coverage.
Sure, if I ever need a root canal or emergency procedure i'd be footing the bill but I take pretty good care of my dental hygiene and it hasn't been an issue. 2/7/2012 9:02:28 AM

^same argument can be made for most types of insurance. so far, having insurance has saved me money on my dental, and yes, I take care of my teef. I'm sure that over time, I'll end up paying more for insurance than going out of pocket... but I feel that all insurance is this way for 99% of the people. God damned 1%ers. 2/7/2012 9:05:07 AM

^^^ that's the reason i HAVEN'T had dental coverage...and my wife is going back to school in the fall, so i won't have any after that...so i'm paying ~$120 for what would cost just a bit more
and to my credit, i THOUGHT i was going to need a filling or have one replaced, but they said everything looked good (and now i have to figure out what to buy with our FSA funds)
if nothing else, i've broken even...i'll probably go back to no coverage 2/7/2012 9:46:57 AM

I never understood why they don't pay for this. Surely it's cheaper than paying for a bunch of fillings. 2/7/2012 9:49:28 AM

Wait, you go to the dentist to prevent rotting? So does that mean you go to a dentist twice a day every day??? 2/7/2012 9:55:56 AM

scaling. and it's not painful if you go to the correct dentist to have it done.
i didn't go to the dentist for a long time (bad experiences in the past) and am paying for it now. literally and figuratively. 2/7/2012 9:59:19 AM
