Some pictures from the annual HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones Street) march and rally in Raleigh earlier today. Though these pictures don't capture it well, there were plenty of anti-tuition hike protesters out there too. More pictures to come.

There were some anti-torture, and pro-DREAM Act signs out there too. Even more photos to come!

Have any recent poll numbers been released about the marriage amendment? I'm going to be really pissed if the biggots manage to get that passed.

^I haven't seen any super recent stuff, but most of the polls I have seen say for North Carolina 1) a majority supports this amendment, but 2) a majority also supports civil unions/domestic partnerships, and 3) a majority opposes the potential ending of things like health insurance access/inheritances rights/contract recognition/hospital visitations/domestic violence protections for any unmarried couple straight or gay... not realizing that number 1 is mutually exclusive of 2 & 3.

For the most part it will come down to how much awareness can be raised about all the potential effects of the amendment, vs. how many "think of the children" ads that NOM (National Organization for Marriage) decides to buy in NC.

Even anti-muslim advocate/Tea Party Republican Renee Ellmers came out against the amendment because she followed it closely enough to know what's going on. So it's just all about raising awareness at this point.

What sort of stuff are the various organizations doing to raise awareness about the nuttery of the amendment? TV ads?

^I haven't heard anything about TV ads, but they are doing a statewide tour called Race to the Ballot where you can sponsor runners to raise awareness and funds from individuals across the state.

In Durham, being the Bull City, they billed the Race to the Ballot event as a running of the bulls down 9th & main streets, and gave everyone cheapo hats with bull horns that said vote against the amendment on May 8th.

^I assume you're talking about the guy with the unemployed sign rather than the chick the the State hoodie.

Whats worse, some unemployeds have spent enough time posting on the interwebs to make a thread into 56 pages rather than getting a job!

Well, sure him, but I just assumed the black people didn't have jobs... the state hoodie girl is probably majoring in sociology and will spend most of her life making less than the average high school graduate.

PS - Gays sholdn't be allowed to exist let alone marry.
