Depends on your destination. If you are sticking to the downtown area it's not a big deal. I take Amtrak to Raleigh a lot of times and have no problem getting around, but you're right that if you need to go somewhere in the burbs you're screwed.

Baby steps, though; we have to start somewhere.

You're also okay with the Gas and Oil Companies scraping Billions of dollars out of the economy.

You're also okay with prices going up across the board on goods and services because it costs truckers a lot more for a fill up at the pump.

For most fleet trucks, 240 to 280 gallons is the norm. That's $885.60 - $1033.20 PER FILL UP at 14 mpg.

Because a journey across the United States costs more than one tank of gas.
If 1 tank could take you across the United States, the cost of gas decreases.

Because the journey of a truck within a city is not linear, trucks often travel extra distance due to time constraints. For example two neighboring store both need deliveries. One accepts deliveries between 8 and 10 am, the other accept deliveries between 2 and 5 pm, instead of saving gas and time by dropping everything off at the same time, the truck has to go to another store far away and then revert back.

Also, if store A calls first, he's loaded into the truck first. If store B calls last, his order is loaded last. If both could accept deliveries at the same time, the truck driver can't get to the order that is loaded first because it's blocked in. They can't wait for all the orders to come in first because it takes too long to load trucks at the last minute. Hope that helps.

It's not mileage, it the increase in the cost of the tank. If a tank cost $1000 at 2.00 a gallon, then it costs $1500 at 3.00 per gallon. That extra $500 goes into a price increase of whatever is getting hauled. Which is everything you buy at a store.



All the stuff about going back and forth across town or store A and B placing orders doesn't change with gas prices.

Incidentally, some newer distributors use computers to efficiently schedule deliveries. It's pretty cool.
