It started out as pea sized. It has been that way for years. Now it is like ping pong ball size in diameter and all red. The whole red area is currently raised about half a centimeter and firm to the touch.

I squeezed it a little bit when I got home and white stuff squirted all over my mirror. It smelled awful.

I had MRSA in the form of a couple "cysts" years back. Dr said several people had come in from my same gym with them. Two in my armpit and one on my ass where it meets my thigh. I can't even begin to describe the pain or disgustingness I had to endure with that shit. I actually sent my doctor and the nurse who had to "lance" them apology cards and Starbucks gift cards.

A few weeks later (after another blood test) I received a postcard alerting me that I had in fact been cleared of MRSA. My roommate (and the mailman) were relieved I'm sure.

It could be a cyst that has become infected (abcessed). The cyst description describes what it was been like for years. The latter part of the article that describes an infected cyst accurately describes what is happening to me. Since I've been in the pool the past two weeks, it makes sense that it could be a staph infection. :-/

The flight surgeon decided to cut it out today. It was two cysts surrounded by an abcess. I guess they randomly became infected. He said it happens. He had to cut them out because their bases were wider than their tops. They were pretty deeply embedded apparently. The doc said if I'd had my phone he would have captured the process for me. Oh well. I have three stitches and am med down til Friday. :-/

Mine sprayed the corpsman today. He was like, "That's a good one!" Apparently the pus is contained in several different sacs. I did not know this until today. They showed me the two cysts. They were about 0.5"-0.75" long and about .25" in diameter if I had to guess. They had to pop the cyst casings before they could pull them out--which was what they showed me.
