yeah, i'm the parallel parking champ in my family. i just follow some advice i heard on Car Talk when i was first learning to drive though, and it's served me well.

i rarely have to make a second attempt, though i do get a bit desperate and try to find the smallest space my escape will fit in on a street without meters and have to give up occasionally.

When my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few weeks ago, he was started on hormone therapy. Long story short, it replaces testosterone with estrogen. He has two pockets in his stomach lining that dispense the hormones, that he's nicknamed his "ovaries". When he was talking to his doctor about the side effects of the hormone therapy, he looked his doctor square in the eye and said "How will this affect my driving, doctor?" The doctor looked at him, puzzled, and said "this shouldn't affect your driving at all." "But doctor, if you're turning me into a woman, I won't be able to drive anymore. I won't even know how to parallel park!" True story.

I was never taught to parallel park in Driver's Ed, nor was it part of my driver's test.

it was part of my drivers test, and I did it fine in a suburban. They just set up cones though so there was very little pressure

there are plenty of studies out there showing how men have better mental faculties for such thing. It still shouldn't be enough of a difference to make it as hard as it seems for women to parallel park, but that can also probably be attributed to the "damsel in distress" idea, and them having it done for them most of their lives. Same reason why most women can't change a tire- not because they don't have the ability too, they just don't do it.
