All of the points you made were good, but it came across as one of those self-help seminar ads. I was expecting you to sell me a book at the end.

Well I was expecting something along the lines of this: message_topic.aspx?topic=592965

So I guess it's not too bad.

Poor typography, too many (unattractive) colors, lack of any cohesive design strategy, mystery meat nav, lots of dumb gimmicks, 10 pounds of shit in 5 pound bag

Fewer questions and no words in all caps would be a start.

-Flash icons, sliding tabs, drop shadows; we've wowed ourselves with new-found capabilities,
Maybe you need to change your point of view to third instead of second. You're assuming that I've wowed myself with new-found capabilities all because you have.

-but before you [go] adding these luxuries to your new website,
Oops you missed a word.

-"When building a website think of how each individual component comes together to create the user experience. Let this notion direct your web design and you can save yourself"

This is like Picasso telling me to "think about what I'm going to paint" and "paint it"... like him.

-"think of how each individual component"
You need to list the components that the individual needs to think about.

-"create the user experience"
How? You need to tell them to test their own site themselves to understand what the user is going through.

That's my critique of the first 1 and a half paragraphs. If you enjoy the harsh criticism, I'll continue helping you. If not, I'll just stop here.

You talk about theories, but don't give examples. You can't educate someone on a topic that they've no exposure to unless you give direct examples of what you mean.

Also, Museo is not a body copy font.

I don't have anything to say about the design but the text you wrote is terrible

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

I'll start off with the fact that you used white letters on a tan background. Do you want to make it painful to read, intentionally?

I'll add that three paragraphs are indented (and one appears to start with a single space), but the rest aren't. "Web Design" shouldn't be capitalized in the first sentence. "Whereas" is one word, not two. There are several places where two spaces are in between words in the same sentence. That kind of blows my mind because HTML shouldn't do that; your CMS shouldn't be inserting   into sentences to make that happen. This can be summed up by, "Get a copy editor." I also don't care for the typography and readability.

Finally, follow your own advice and keep your user in mind. Are design professionals the intended audience of your blog, or are you using it to drum up work and impress business owners? It looks to me like the blog is mostly a way to showcase your work and highlight your clients; it's not a blog about best practices in web design. So if it really is oriented towards attracting clients, then name-dropping "Flash icons, sliding tabs, drop shadows" in the second sentence is inappropriate; the business owners who are looking to hire you to do this for them won't have a clue what those terms mean.

The copywriter for the site needs to get his shit together. In http://www.anorocagency.com/about/our-origins, you can't talk about "carbon fiber copywriting" (whatever that's supposed to mean) and then, in the very next paragraph, mix up "who's" and "whose". That's embarrassing.

I don't know. I like it.

However, Anoroc seems to have done a TON of hospice work.

^^Agreed. There's nothing wrong with not being minimal.... unless you're preaching minimal design.

The site and your company's brand is not minimal, so probably not the best idea to be preaching less is more.

Ha, I appreciate the comments. I kinda just have to write on topics I dont know about sometimes.

I also know there are a lot of errors. Kinda just had to get one out quickly and dont know much about the subject and havent had a chance to comb through it for errors.

^^ The whole site is riddled with errors, though. It's inexcusable for an agency that prides itself on "well-crafted words" in your top-level mission statement on the front page (which is missing an "and" in the last sentence, by the way). Misspelling "fiery" and "electrifying" in filler images is absurd; they're images! On the Faithful Sidekicks page, Dempsey's name is misspelled as "Desmpsey," Scar is alternately spelled with four or five r's, and look at the appearance of MUÑEQUITA; how can that look so terrible when you have someone on staff whose goddamn title is "mighty typographer"? There are missing hyphens, missing commas, sentence fragments, apostrophes that shouldn't be there... the list goes on.

Can I please correct everything and send you guys an invoice for it? The impression the site gives is that the agency pays zero attention to detail, preferring an ounce of style over a pound of substance.

Then why the fuck are you writing articles in the first place? If you don't know what the hell you're talking about, don't write about it.

It just makes you, and by proxy your company, look foolish and incompetent.

^There's a huge difference between writing my individual opinions on a forum and writing on an official company blog. You will never see me taking the liberties of opinion and conjecture I use here on anything related to products I work on. And make fun all you like, but I keep my mouth shut about 99%+ of my work. There's very little I'm allowed to actually speak out.
