Anyone using this in place of Microsoft Office?

How do you like it?

I've been using it instead of Office since 07-08' and I haven't had any problems with it. Works just the same as word, excel, and powerpoint.

The one thing you do need to remember is to convert the files over to Microsoft compatible formats before you send them to someone else. Other than that, it's free and easy.

I was discussing this a few days ago with a co-worker. I used it a few years ago. It was bulky and ran very slow back then. Docs created in the original MS software lost a lot of formatting when opened in OpenOffice and generally looked terrible. I'm hoping it has stepped up its game since I tried it though. I may give it another try sometime.

^ I had a similar sentiment. I don't remember when it was, maybe 2009 or so. It just didn't work well then but I'd like to know if it got better since then. I'd reinstall or update and try it again.

tried it for a while and eventually had to go back to the Microsoft programs, even paid for a legit copy of Office to get it all going because I was so pissed with openoffice. The work computers have Office Starter Edition which is fine for 99% of users.

OpenOffice has been abandoned by its developers since Oracle took over. They all moved to LibreOffice.

It's all I use now, no complaints. From what I've read, Microsoft considers it a significant threat since Windows keeps losing market share and Office is their flagship product now.

you guys really don't have complaints about open office?

it's pretty much horrible. it's almost more convenient to use latex for something longer than 10 pages. nay, it is more convenient to use latex for something longer than 10 pages.

I use MS Office Cloud.

Actually I don't, because it doesn't exist, because Microsoft is fucking stupid for not inventing it yet.

Been using it for years, only complaint is with the powerpoint knockoff. Excel clone is wonderful and the writer app is just as versatile when compared to the ugliness that is new versions of word.

used it for a bit and moved back to office.

on its own it is fine, but if you have to deal with people who use word, then it is terrible. in essence, it is terrible, because i know of no company that has adopted openoffice.

the problem?

when i opened word files in openoffice writer or vice versa, a lot of the formatting got messed up.
