But it looks like just an excuse to beat each other with sticks.
I mean at least hockey you get penalized for taking a stick to somebody. Plus I just saw a dude get tackled.
There seems to be some rules I'm not a aware of because if you can tackle why don't they do it more. Also it doesn't appear like you have to pass to move with the ball so why ever pass?
Someone explain this to me. 3/4/2012 11:30:53 PM

you can't just wack other with you stick, you have to be pretty much attempting to make contact with the opposing players stick to dislodge the ball
you can't tackle
good passing and ball movement is key in the game (ball moves faster than the player) 3/5/2012 12:30:53 AM

If it's reckless or vicious, any strike can be considered a slash at the ref's discretion.

This. Also, the gloves are considered part of the stick if it is being held by that particular hand.
^The only "line" you can never carry across would be the circular, goal crease - as an offensive player. There are offsides rules that may make it appear that a particular player is not trying to cross, due to other players being out of position.
Besides the offsides technicalities, and a rule known as failure to advance, it's a pretty straightforward game. 3/5/2012 1:06:16 AM

is failure to advance a way to keep a team from killing the clock or just sitting on the ball? like a 5 second violation in basketball? 3/5/2012 11:42:33 AM

lacrosse is actually very similar to basketball in terms of how set offenses are run. there are a lot of isolation sets and triangle type offenses based off of skipping a pass for an open shot. i played all through high school. it's fun to play, but i get how it's kind of obscure and not as exciting to watch as a spectator. 3/5/2012 11:49:20 AM

Lacrosse is an awesome game. I wish they had it down here when I was in high school. I'm coaching JV lacrosse right now, and we have a lot of fun. 3/5/2012 11:50:19 AM

They had that game on at the bar I was at last night, instead of the NC State - VT game. Fuck living in Virginia. (well they had the game on a smaller tv that was not in front of the bar, but fuck that.)
I watched for like 5 minutes. Saw one goalie chase a dude behind his own goal, said dude then just ran right post him and scored. DUMB.
Plus they didn't murder anyone even. 3/5/2012 11:55:40 AM

you can get possession on a ball going out of bounds if you're the closest to it when it goes out of bounds. so goalies often leave the crease to chase a shot or errant pass. 3/5/2012 12:06:57 PM

Yeah but shouldn't you go back to, you know, defend the goal when the other team clearly has possession? Also that is a dumb fucking rule. 3/5/2012 12:19:40 PM

^^Only pertains to a shot. An errant pass will go to the opposing team.
^Often at the end of the game, the losing team will attempt to double team the ball (even with the goalie) or "lock off" the opposing team's players in attempt to get possession back from a team trying to run down the clock.
Obviously the strategy is risky, and often backfires, but it's necessary with little time remaining. 3/5/2012 2:24:19 PM
