CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill football player is accused of killing a Charlotte man during a fight Saturday night.

Police said that Kenan Wells Gay, 23, and Robert Edward Kingston III, 26, got into fight in Ed's Tavern on Park Road in Charlotte. The fight spilled outside, police said, and Kingston was pushed into the road and struck by a passing 2007 BMW 335i.

A medic pronounced Kingston dead at the scene.

Gay was charged with murder and taken into custody. A Sanford native, he was a walk-on on the UNC football team in 2007.

Police said the BMW driver, who stopped and called 911, will not be charged.

apparently my office manager's son knew the driver of the BMW and was supposed to be in the car but decided to catch a ride a little earlier. Freaky stuff.

I always enter/exit Ed's from the parking lot/deck entrance which is away from the road. I always forget about the front door and how close it is to the street.
