if you have kids riding with you, in Maryland

http://www.nbcwashington.com/blogs/first-read-dmv/Maryland-Considering-Smoking-in-Car-Ban-142326295.html

Quote :
"Maryland senators are expected to continue debating a bill to outlaw smoking in a vehicle with passengers younger than 8.

On Friday, lawmakers amended the bill, changing the age of the passenger that cannot be exposed to smoking in a car from 8 to 16. However, the amendment was overturned when supporters of the bill realized they had voted in error.

Proponents said that it will be easier to limit the ban to children under the age of 8. Children up to 7-years-old are required to ride in car seats, so law enforcement will be able to able to easily identify children under the age of 8.

More amendments are expected on the bill today."

Good.

I hated riding in the car when my parents were smoking.

not at all mad about this

i guess somewhere there are governments that still protect children

the age should be higher honestly, but I understand the difficulties in enforcement

I liked the smell when my mom smoked in the car.
She was pretty good about keeping the window 1/3 of the way down (at least) and directing most of the smoke out so there was a huge difference between riding with her and riding with a person who didn't do those things.

But yeah, that shit's nasty now that I'm grown up.

I understand the reasoning behind this proposed ban, I like the ban, and I think it will improve the quality of life for many people. I still disagree with the ban itself though.

I mainly just have issue telling people they are free to do a legal activity....except here, at this time, in your own property, etc...

For some odd reason, I think many of the people that support these smoking bans would be singing a different tune should society turn against some of their personal vices in the future in the same way society has turned against smoking

like, what if tommorow, they told BigHitSunday he couldn't suck dick in his house anymore

Last time I checked, child endangerment was illegal.

The reason they are having to make shit like this illegal is because the majority of fucking society is too stupid to realize that its bad to smoke with kids in the car.

These are most of the same people who think it is ok to smoke while they are pregnant.

it is legal to text, but dangerous to do so while driving

it is legal to drink if you are over 21, but illegal to drive after/while drinking

same thing here. it is legal to smoke, but dangerous to your passengers (especially the minors) in such a confined space.

Its legal to do a bug bomb in your house.

Leave your kid in there next time you do one, and then the next time, and see how long it takes you to get arrested.

like I said, I understand the reasoning... I just think everyone is unwittingly setting a precedence for sacrificing their future rights. Especially in the case where you could be banned from smokung in your own home

There are a lot of morons in this country that don't deserve rights

i.e., those that would smoke in a closed car with their kids in the back seat

And smoking in your house is so 1988

my parents smoked in the house and car with me and my sister inside. that shit should most definitely be illegal. only problem with this law is 8 is too young. my parents would've slapped my 9 year old ass if i complained about them smoking.

As any dog left in a car in August will tell you, cracking the window doesn't help much

Well to be fair, driving with the window open does create a drag.

If it affects the health of other people unwillingly, then of course it should be banned because people aren't respectful enough think about that on their own.

man.. it's a good thing the Government can tell me how to take care of my kids. When is it going to be illegal to take them to Bojangles!?!? Also, they need to hurry up and regulate how often I exercise my kids... b/c I have no fucking Idea what I'm doing. But we probably shouldn't play peewee football b/c kids can get hurt.

I sure am glad the government can tell us what's best for us, b/c I would just be up the creek with out regulation.

Where is the conclusive evidence that links smoking to lung cancer? Look hard. Look long. It doesn't exist. Enough people have said it for long enough that most people just accept it as fact.

I bet some of you believe that second-hand smoke is more dangerous than actually smoking, too.

It is a very small portion of lung cancer cases that occur in smokers. However, since the general populace loves to have a clear-cut villain, when you hear 'lung cancer' you immediately assume that person smoked.

I'm a smoker who abhors the sight of parents smoking in cars with children, but I'm only begrudgingly against the law, for many of the reasons stated here. It's invasive, it's hard to enforce, it won't do that much good even under ideal circumstances. The best bet is to continue on the road we're on now, where soon people will choose not to smoke around their kids -- because everyone else in society will give them no end of shit otherwise.
