So for the past few days I have been having a very odd time with Google Voice. Apparently some calls and text messages sent to me are going to someone else (I have no idea who). I didn't know about the problem until today, when people told me that yesterday they tried calling me and someone else picked up.
Today several people were texting me to arrange pickups or appointments. I would hear the notification, open my phone to read the text, and there was ALREADY A REPLY FROM ME IN THE LOG saying "Wrong number" or "Stop texting me!!" or "Who the fuck is this?!". I could then respond normally and converse.
Anybody had similar issues? I've never seen or heard of anything like it, and since I've taken to using Google Voice for all of my business contacts this is downright scary. 3/17/2012 12:12:32 AM |

You should call Google customer support and complain. 3/17/2012 1:38:50 AM |

It is probably a glitch and will go away on its own.
But I would take a few precautions anyway. First, change your google password. Then, go into google voice and remove all forwarding numbers and devices. Check that everything goes to voicemail. then re-enter them.

Here's a google voice mail translation I received the other day. Funny this is, the call was a hang up. The person didn't even leave a voice mail.

it's not really a "bizarre" problem, but GV doesn't seem to be working like it's supposed to (or, rather, i have it set up incorrectly
i paid the $20 and ported my "real" number to GV after switching to straight talk on monday (almost 5 days ago), figuring it was a good long-term decision
however, it doesn't seem to work as i thought it would (which might be the problem)...when i call or text someone, they don't see my "real" (GV) number...they see some random number with a random area code (and no, it's not the number assigned to me by straight talk, either)...additionally, i don't see THEIR real number, either (ie. they don't come up as one of my contacts, but as some random number that doesn't even have their area code)
on my phone, i have GV set to "Use Google Voice to make all calls" under GV settings
in my GV account settings online, my ST number is checked (as well as the child checkbox "Receive text messages on this phone")
is this the way GV is supposed to work? doesn't make sense (i mean, what's the point?), so i assume i'm doing something wrong 9/20/2013 5:09:48 PM |

sounds like it's using the google routing number. Whenever you dial a number, it dials some random number from google and then forwards the call. Mine seems to be working fine though with a number I ported from Verizon. 9/20/2013 6:31:45 PM |

i also ported from verizon
it's annoying as shit and makes me wish i had taken my chances with just porting it to ST 9/20/2013 8:39:28 PM |

as of yesterday, it seems to be working correctly...though i'm not sure if it just took a week for everything to fall into place or it had to do with me uninstalling/reinstalling google voice
i had originally backed up the apps/data on my bionic running 4.2.2 and restored them to the nexus (running the pacman 4.3 ROM)...so i suppose it's possible it was an issue with that
also, i noticed an app called "voice+" (not on the market, as far as i can tell) with the same icon as GV and its only purpose seems to be to allow apps to send text messages through the GV number...so that might have been part of it
i haven't done any research to see if voice+ is installed when you install GV, or if it's something baked into this 4.3 ROM, but it all seems to be working for now 9/23/2013 2:06:15 PM |

Oh nice so that's what Voice+ is. Looks like I finally need to root this s4 replacement and install CM RC2 9/23/2013 3:41:24 PM |

^^ ah, yep: http://www.theandroidvibe.com/app-reviews/cyanogenmod-voice/
Quote : | "Voice+ is installed in CyanogenMod by default and only is a configuration app for Google Voice. It is the go-between for Voice and other messengers. I have tried other solutions but they are relatively expensive and none of the ones I have tried have worked very well. They work but seem clunky or cumbersome and in some cases have broken Google Voice on my phone. The Voice+ implementation is seamless. Granted, they do require you to have their ROM installed but if you are on-board with that it works great. And the integration is included on the ROM meaning it is free! What is not to like?" |
