You know, I was just beginning to think that it's about time for another devastating natural disaster. It's been over a year since the tsunami hit japan. What will be next? And just where will it occur? 3/20/2012 4:00:25 PM

Also my friend asked me several months ago to predict where the next 7.0 earthquake would be and I said Mexico. Im obviously a psychic. I did make sure to bring that up to him yesterday afternoon for fun though.

It was the early 1800s, a series of 3 earthquake around 8.0 occurred around the New Madrid Fault Line. The earthquake actually reversed the flow of the Mississippi briefly and create the Reelfoot Lake.
Its an intraplate fault and not nearly as active as other faults but the true seismic hazard is tough to know. The biggest risk it poses is to Memphis where the infrastructure is slowly being retrofitted to meet the current seismic requirements. St. Louis is also at risk. 3/22/2012 6:22:54 PM

A 6ish quake is scary to feel but not that rare. Easily ~150 of them a year. 2011 had 185 between 6-6.9. 4/17/2012 10:16:16 AM

Yep there have been 11 6+ in the past week. Until you get into the 8+ region they really aren't as rare as you might imagine. 4/17/2012 10:25:54 AM
