The endless jokes of me eating world were hilarious in high school, so I support this early millennial band.

They put on one of the worst live shows I've ever seen.

I assume you went to the same 2002 tour I did, but I saw these 3 bands in Raleigh (while I was touring NC State, so I got an excused absence from school to see a concert ).

I thought they were the worst by far, even worse than Blink 182. Green Day put on a great show though. They invited people from the audience to play the instruments for one song, the first chick who said she could play bass sucked so they kicked her out. Then they gave everyone the instruments they just played.

Can a headliner steal a show, or am I incorrectly assuming that JEW opened for Green Day?

Technically Blink 182 was the headliner. JEW played first, then GD, then B182

Green Day was far better than the other two.

^ i was there too..

JEW really sucked it up live and that's the metric by which i measure a band's tallent.

haha, I don't really remember talking about them that much on here

Solid, underrated rock band imo though. And yes, while Clarity is my favorite, I do not think the rest are trash and I own all of their albums. Ignoring the self titled and Static Prevails albums (since they are hard to compare to the rest) I personally rank them: Clarity > Futures > Bleed American > Chase This Light = Invented.

Seen them a couple times now and they were very solid each time. They pretty much nail the feel of their recorded songs live, so if you like them you will probably like them live and if you don't you probably won't. Also, they are much better in a smaller setting: The best set I saw them play was their warmup set that I won tickets to in Charlotte back around the time Chase This Light came out. Small crowd and they played a bunch of my favorite songs, songs they don't normally play if they are opening up for someone like Green Day. In summary, the smaller shows where they were the focus they were very, very good live. The large shows where they were the opener they were not very good: they played the typical songs the 96 rock fan might know and they had terrible mixes and it was just disappointing. You could just tell it wasn't the right setting for them.

I have a hard time comparing them to bands like Blink-182 and Green Day though. I was pretty much into and disinterested in those bands by elementary and middle school respectively. JEW, I got into in 8th or 9th grade and still listen to them.

Also, Blink 182 is absolutely atrocious live.

I enjoy Jimmy Eat World. One of the few bands from that period/genre that I still listen to with any regularity.

If by that you mean they just stand there and play their songs exactly like they are on the album, then yeah.

Admittedly it was still daylight when they were playing in a huge amphitheater, so most people weren't that into it, but I was trying to get into it because I liked them and they literally told the crowd to just sit down and listen.

I too was at that show...and must have missed JEW open. I couldn't believe that Green Day was opening for Blink, and yeah Blink sucked and Green Day was awesome. From what I remember they just said penis the entire time like it was funny.

I saw JEW once at the Disco Rodeo and thought the show was great. I was impressed by how hard they played.

I was at that show too! That was a while ago and its funny that Blink 182 was the headliner. In my mind I remembered Green Day being the headliner, whoops.

I'm a big fan of Jimmy Eat World, and I would agree that they put on a better show in a smaller venue. In the last 4 years or so I've seen them play at small venues in NYC and Charlotte and thoroughly enjoyed both shows. They don't tour the east coast often so I try to see them every time they come through.

The only thing that pisses me off is that they never play Lucky Denver Mint live anymore, at least when I see them.

Saw them at the Cat's Cradle sometime in Fall 2000 and I thought it was a damn fine live show. I think Jebediah was the opening band maybe.

Im pretty sure I was at the blink/green day/jew concert in charlotte in 2002. I was in 8th grade at the time

All I remember is Mark Hoppus saying something about dicks and telling them to print it as the review of the show in the Charlotte newspaper the next day

This band presents me with a dilemma.

I really like a number of their songs, to the point where, with any other band, I would say, "I am a fan of that band."

But I don't say that, because when people hear you say "I am a fan of Jimmy Eat World," their response is impolite at best and bordering on assault at worst.

I listened to them in high school and liked them a lot. I remember how mad I was the first time I heard the Bleed American version of Sweetness.

don't know how anyone could still listen to them though. or really any of that emo shit from that era (Get Up Kids, Saves the Day). some of the most cringeworthy lyrics around.

Hear You Me might actually be the single gayest song ever written
