99.5% chance I will be getting relocated there in May. Anyone live there or from there?

At least it's semi-close to Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and it seems to have a college.

I stopped for gas there once on my way to Corpus Christi. Don't know much about it. Do you work for a big company? Caterpillar just opened a big excavator plant there so there might be some youngish people running around you can make friends with.

But cool, thanks.

I see what you did there^^

Yup, I suspect we are going to more friendly working conditions as we also announced that we are building mini excavators & small dozers in Athens, Ga

All of our newer facilities have been in more southern states

Just go to Austin and Houston.

Yeah, I moved up to the Aurora plant almost four years ago. I've worked as a manufacturing engineer on every product we have (Large Wheel Loaders, Medium Wheel Loaders, Hydraulic Excavators, and Hydraulic Mining Shovels) at the plant, but want to get my industrial engineer on with some smaller, higher volume product. That is why that Athens plant is looking nice.

BCP is good people! I'm a BCP field rep so I'm a little biased.

My boss used to work on excavator product in Aurora

We have a huge design center in Sanford now too & the skid steers coming out of Sanford are high volume as well. It's also the world source for the product so it has that element to it.

I was wondering if you worked at Cat when you mentioned STIP in the MS150 thread!

^4 San Antonio ain't that bad... Austin is a college town so it gets kinda old fast, especially 6th street. Houston is too spread out, humid, smells like oil...

I'm a film nerd so I'm not expecting Austin to get old really.

I'd make that 2 hr drive to catch a flick at the alamo drafthouse and hit a bar and eat some burritos any day.

I live in Corpus Christi. It's not really worth coming down there. ESPECIALLY DURING SPRING BREAK. I live on Padre Island... Spring break is worthless in Corpus Christi!

If Austin is a College Town then Raleigh is a fucking farm. Austin is LEGIT. Go there often. San Antonio isn't bad... but it's no Austin. Houston is pretty much only worth it if you're going to an Astros or Texans game.

NCSUWolfy are you still in Corpus? I need to find some State folks who aren't flight students!

San Antonio is that bad. It's just as spread out as Houston. Though if you like your bars in strip malls or have some weird obsession with the Alamo (and the Ripley's Believe It or Not! across the street), then San Antonio is the place for you. Also, everyone here is unattractive. It's just lackluster from top to bottom.

Meanwhile, Austin is awesome and definitely not just a college town. There are definitely college areas to it, but there are definitely non-college areas. Oh, and there's actually good food in Austin too, something that also can't be said for San Antonio.

I was born about an hour from there in Wharton, TX and lived there until I was 7. It was in the middle of BFE, but at least it was only about 40 miles up 59 to Houston. I used to go to a lot of Astro's games, but never made it to Oiler's games. They had a really good mexican restaurant in Houston too, because the last time we went to Texas we went back to that same place. Can't remember the name now.

We used to stop to eat in Victoria sometimes on the way to Corpus or to go fishing in Port Lavaca. More often went to El Campo because it was half the mileage of Victoria or Houston and had a nice Italian restaurant.

One of my fondest memories of Texas was going to Corpus as a little kid and staying in a hotel on the beach that had an indoor/outdoor pool with a swim through wall thing. That and riding those floating bike things on the Gulf. Oh yea, and a seagull shit on my moms arm. I thought that was fucking hilarious at 5 years old.

Don't live in Corpus, just went for a family reunion on my step moms side. They were staying in some ghetto hotel in Port A so I took my ass right to Corpus & checked into the Hilton

^wharton? Ha, that is part of my territory. Don't go there too much but definitely spent some time there & also el campo. I agree, Austin is way more than a college town. Houston is alright, sprawling is an understatement but weather, affordability, opportunity & no shortage of cowboy hats can't be beat!!

^Wow I can't believe anybody on TWW knows jack about Wharton. What job do you do that takes you there? The company dad worked for transferred and closed down, but I still know a few family friends in Wharton. The main ones I know own an insurance company. Still shocked anybody knows anything about that hole in the wall with the damn Teepee Motel.

Houston has an absolutely massive Asian area (I think the locals call it Chinatown, but it seems like it's actually dominated by Vietnamese).

San Antonio has the best attractions, culture, history, Fiesta, and best NBA team in Texas.

too many hippies in Austin trying too hard to keep it weird...(I'll admit, I like to visit Austin, but living there is another thing)

Houston is ghetto, last time I was there I had to call 911...and I've never called 911 before.

On a separate note, I prefer North Carolina to Texas, but oh well...

Nighthawk, I work for Caterpillar & call on the east Texas & Louisiana dealerships so I o to Wharton & El Campo (among other places) to visit customers.

Houston definitely has ghetto parts bututs not fair to call an entire citybthatbsize ghetto. And funny enough, I prefer Texans over Southerners
