So, Bought an Office 2010 product key card, got online and received the 25-digit product key in order to download the software. went through a download, only to catch at the end that it's the 32-bit file, not the 64 bit (new computer with Win 7). Well, I go back to re-download and it appears that I am unable to do so?

When I go here: http://www.office.com/productkeycard and log in, when i get to the download screen the 64-bit (only option) download link is inactive..... to me, it indicates taht I get (1) download and that's it, to me.


It appears the only solution I can find is to buy the goddamned backup DVD for another $13 and wait a few days..... however does anyone else know something that I'm missing?

^agreed. Even internally at Microsoft, IT only really support 32bit. The only advantage 64bit office has is allowing monster size spreadsheets in Excel.

32bit Office works just fine on 64bit systems. Better in fact than the 64bit version (from a support/updates standpoint)

I'm pretty sure you're fucked. The new way Microsoft has it is pure greed. Even if you paid your dues, you're still a criminal if you steal another key if you can even find one.

meh, x64 has worked well for me for years. I need it primarily for excel, but I don't have issues in other programs.

Eh, I was on Office 2005 before I got the IT automatic upgrade pushed to me.
The ribbons really are embarrassing for MS and screams "Look! Giant things, like Apple! Please, please, please come back!". Not including an option to go back to a classic views is typical MS "Deal with it". Can't wait to see those embedded into Explorer.

And the fact that every Office application has an atrocious splash screen that runs before every launch and fires up a bunch of addons. I'm trying to load a CSV file in Excel and every time "LOADING BLUETOOTH ADDON". There's probably a way to turn all that garbage off, but I can't imagine Bluetooth being standard for every user, so why is that the default?

And now the Macro options are now basically "All off" or "All on" as opposed to prompt. Sigh. Security indeed.

...and I appear to have started a rant unrelated to the issue at hand. Apologies.

If you can find a number to call, I'd try that. I've actually had good luck with MS support over the phone for activation. Well, except for that time last week when I found the phone system was now fully automated and it errored out on me with no way to troubleshoot further other than the recommendation to buy another copy of windows, wipe my machine, and reinstall. But that's another story.

What the fuck are you even talking about? If you have a valid license (aka cd key), you can perfectly legally torrent the disc if you lost it. However damn near all Microsoft software is available for download via digital river now, so you don't even have to bother with bittorrent.

Lemme stop you there, I found your problem. Since there was no Office 2005, I can see why you experienced problems.

And you are about 5 years too late to the "OMG the Ribbon sux" complain train. It doesn't suck, it's considerably more efficient and effective, and the rest of the world moved on long ago.

You can turn off those addons with a couple of clicks. Which, by the way, don't come preinstalled. If you have some bluetooth addon for Excel, either you or your IT department installed the thing. The only Office 2010 app that has a long-loading screen (more than 1/4 second) is Outlook, and it IS annoying as shit.

^Forgive my typo on a basic date issue. The programs are no longer on my computer so I didn't have the exact program to reference. I've got all sorts of random MS 200X on my machine. In this instance, I was probably thinking of VS 2005 and SQL 2005 when I made my original statement. Trying to throw out an entire statement based on just that is just silly. Or is that the MS way?

As per the addons, I figured it was simple to turn those off (as per my original comments). The splash screen is just an annoyance with Excel since I constantly open CSV files. Force of habit to close after every use, but it just gets me since its an aesthetic change.

Btw, I'm curious on your thoughts on the Macro changes. That just seems like such a bad idea to me.

You're in the minority. There's a reason AutoDesk has moved AutoCad, Inventor and Revit use the ribbon. And hundreds of other non-Microsoft software packages use it today.

And it's got nothing to do with Microsoft. It provides a significant improvement in productivity and efficiency over a toolbar + linear menu commanding system.
